I do agree you don't need a $30 wrench, since you can pick up a 74mm cup type oil filter wrench from most auto parts stores (or Walmart, etc.) for under $10. Especially w/the plastic housing, I prefer to use recommended torque settings.

Here you go Moto

Torque settings:
Plastic oil filter housing = 18.5 ft/lb (25 Nm)
Oil Drain Plug (w/crush washer) = 37 ft/lb (50.2 Nm)

I'm doing my first oil change after 12 months and 2 weeks and 10K miles...but I'm having a heck of a time finding a 14 Flute oil filter wrench...everything I've found is 15 flute and I found out the hard way that that just does not work. May I ask what brand and model wrench it is that you bought? Thank you.
