I generally find judges to be decent but overworked people. An apologetic attitude (without actually admitting fault) can go far.

"I don't think I was going that fast but I'm truly sorry if I was and will be more careful. I'm sorry for taking the courts time. ya da ya da yada".

Keep a point off the insurance could indeed be worth the effort!!!
