Water dripping from front/rear lid

OK, this is not a big deal, so don't jump down my throat. But is anyone else annoyed that when you wash your car and open either the front or rear lid, that water drips down inside. Just a pet peeve, but my old MB E430 channeled the water into the runoff rails. I know, completely different type of car and no, I don't expect all the same type of engineering. However, I wonder if with just a little thought it could be avoided.
