I just took apart the door on my 2007 Boxster and I would like to upgrade the speakers. The car came with the base system: which consists of a 6.5" driver in each door and one tweeter in each corner of the dash for a total of four speakers.

Although the cutout in the door could probably hold a larger speaker, a 6.5" is a drop in replacement. The door panel has a location to mount a standard 3.5" speaker or a tweeter could easily be fit into this space.

I want to select speakers that will work best with a AVIC-D3 without using any external amplifiers. I plan on running two small 3.5" or 4" speakers in the rear storage console. Just not sure what to do about the fronts. A good 6.5" coaxial would probably be the easiest solution, but components would work as well. I just don't want to end of with speakers that will require an external amp to get decent sound.

Any suggestions on brands?
