One trick my salesman showed me is that if you leave one of the doors open and use the handle to pull the trunk down, it will usually close by itself. I use this technique when I remember it. A lot of times I end up using the handle to get it partially closed and end up pressing on the hatch to get it fully closed. I don't think slamming it hard enough to close will be good for it in the long run.
