No, not at all ... but the so called after market specialists. These range from genuine experts (yes there are some, but how do you know?), through car hi fi shops of various provenance, all the way to Halfords, where some spotty oik with a few O-levels will happily install stuff in your car with gay abandon.
My last Porsche (a 964 Carrera) had some mysterious electrical gremlins, which I reckoned were due to various alarms and devices which had been previously fitted. I took it to a trusted auto electrician to have all this gubbins removed, and the wiring loom expertly repaired to factory standards. What we found when we delved into the car was horrifying. The car had had about 3 different alarm/immobilisers fitted over the years, and left behind was a rats nest of untidy, unsafe wiring ... including a live unfused wire trailed over the fuel tank
The same idiots who put all this stuff in are still out there only now installing Trackers and such like things. These people have no real idea of the electronic complexity of the cars they are interfering with, and I would not go near them with a barge pole.
Remember we are not talking about bolting on some wheels or spoilers here, but actually cutting into the main wiring loom and adding additional devices. My attitude to this is that if it was not designed and fitted by the factory ... I don't want it in my car ... no matter what the insurers say.
(PS ... apologies for thread hi-jacking, it's just this subject really gets me riled!
