The opening and closing is governed by vacuum and rpm so if you are placing the engine under heavy load conditions, even at lower rpm's it can open, you don't want too much backpressure so it senses when you are loaded up and will then open. You can try some of the programming steps to raise the default threshold, but again if you have your foot into it from the get go it is going to open earlier because of the vacuum and back pressure. Maybe not flooring it past your neighbors house is the way to go?
