I went to look at the new 997's yesterday. I must say it is a mighty subtle facelift, blink and you miss it, although I accept the real differences are technical. I'll reserve full judgement till I've driven one.

Yet again though I was struck by just what a bargain the Cayman seems, when stacked up against the 997. A base Carrera is as near as dammit TWICE the price of a 2.7 Cayman, yet if you strip away some of the trim differences, there is no getting away from the fact that much of the car is inherently the same, but with the engine turned round and with bigger bores and pistons. I cannot imagine that the manufacturing costs of a Carrera are that much more than a Cayman ... no wonder Porsche is so profitable.
