Failing lifters

Hey Peeps, has anyone here experienced valve lifter failure? What were the symptoms and was there any associated cam or other drivetrain damage known. Last winter I noticed some lifter noise (believed to only be one) at idle that would go away after about a minute of idling in say 25-50 degree F weather conditions. So, no noise since spring and summer temps have been around until the other day when with the engine fully warmed I experienced some loud tapping under acceleration with misfiring around the 1500-2500 rpm range. At first I thought it may be a rod bearing but I believe it was a lifter as I unfortunately have had experience with a gradual rod failure in a 911 and this was different. The problem has mysteriously dissappeared for the last two days. As a result, I have reflashed my software back to stock in anticipation of an "event " soon which will take me to the dealer, I have 17000 miles on the CS. Has this happened to anyone else? If I have a bad lifter I think it would be appropriate for the dealer to replace all of them... Thanks for your input and advice!
