Question Looking for a new daily driver

So right now my CS is my daily driver, but I got a new job and the commute is more miles than I would like to put on it.

With that being said, I was thinking about taking no more than 17K and getting something hopefully no more than 50K miles. Any suggestions? I'm open to all ideas! Thanks!

So far I found the following:

2004 Lexus IS 300 with 28k miles
1999 M3 vert with 43K miles.

I would buy a slightly used Audi A3 as my daily driver.

Put a little zoom-zoom in your choice . . .

Looks like you want something with a little giddyup, rather than just an economy commuter from the 2 you mentioned - how about a Mazda 3 or Mazda 6? Reliable, sporty performance, decent gas mileage and you can find late models within your $/mileage specs.

On the other hand they don't have the finish and prestige of a BMW or Lexus (actually that IS 300 is not a bad choice either), but I was pretty happy with the Mazdas I've owned in the past. I also saw a used Acura RSX on Carmax in that price/mileage range - it would make a nice commuter also.

I have a Golf GTI as my commuter car and it gets about 25mpg. Its fast and fun and cheaper than the A3 which is essentially the same car. Get the DSG, its a hoot.

Why yes, a pickup truck is very similar to the cars you've already considered!

I'd buy either a GTi/A3 or a 4-door Jeep Unlimited; the benefit of the long wheel base Jeep is that it can tow the Cayman around on a trailer... - Suneet

Mini Cooper S

Good gas mileage
Really fun to drive
Handles
Runflat tires
Tons of room with the back seats folded down
Modern safety with all the airbags
Won't make you feel guilty about wasting gas like an SUV

and it has an AC vent in the glove box so you can turn it into a pseudo cooler for your boxed lunch. How cool is that????

I'm not sure you can get a Cooper S in his budget? Maybe though.

+1 on a GTI. You should be able to get a 2 year old one with low miles for 17k and around 30mpg.
I picked a TDI because my commute is 51 miles on way. With the stop and go in DC I get about 550 miles out of my diesel. That is one fill up a week and no additional time spend on the commute to fill up. It is alright but not much fun.

the gti and a3 are great suggestions!

This is one reason I posed this question to you all because you would think of vehicles that I wouldn't!
