Built-in G-Timer

Check out this link for the new Dodge Challenger. It shows that the new Dodge creation has a built in G-Timer in the gauge cluster below the speedo. I propose that Porsche gets rid of the analog speedo in our Caymans and replace it with a split gauge where half of it is oil temp and pressure and the bottom half is a built in G-Timer.

How nice would that be!?!?!

Indeed, all of the technology is already in the car to do not just timed runs, but lap timing as well. Its pathetic that the SportChrono requires you to manually start and stop the timer, or set a new lap. Like I'm going to be anywhere near accurate (let alone safe) trying to flick the stick for a new lap while hauling across the finish line at 160ft/sec, and then diving hard on the brakes. So the 'sports display" is useless (if not downright dangerous)

Actually, I started doing this 2 years ago at the mid point of the longest straight to have time to do it, and it's gotten so automatic of a movement, I now do it at start/stop pretty accurately. My SC times are within 0.1 of the official times, and the real benefit is the real-time colored display on the PCM screen that lets me know if I'm green, yellow, or orange (ahead, at or behind my previous fastest lap or ref time). The annoying thing is if you bump the stalk and get to the en of the session and see tire pressures or nav displayed on the computer, since then the SC won't record all those inputs you gave as start/stops!

And, yes, I actually do agree with Blueblast, so even though I use the SC Chrono, I installed a Traqmate...
