Awesome rides
I just got back from Columbus, IN where I took part in the Car and Driver Live event. We drove a Ferarri F430, a Lombo Gallardo, a Lotus Elise, a Corvette Z06, a Ford GT and a Porsche 997. The best overall car was the Porsche. It was very refined and faster than --it. The least cool car was the Elise. It was fun watching people try to enter that car graciously. Not possible. It was fun to drive and it had no obvious red line. The Corvette has gobs of power but it doesn't stand up to the upper cars. The Ford GT has this eirie low sound when the supercharger spools up and the a-pillar is in your site enough to bother you at times. No traction control on it, and we were warned about goosing it in corners. The Lamborgini and the Ferarri were paddle shifters and once you got used to the paddles, they were a blast to drive. When you shift them down, the engine is revved like you were blipping the throttle. One very wild thing, there is no sound like the whine of the 12cyl engine. Even though we were on the roads, which were very scenic and mildly curvy, the told us we could drive them any way we wanted as long as you didn't pass any vehicle in the pack. There were times that you could lag back and then let it rip. The event went fine and it was run professionslly but loosley. The price was $1350 for a half day and we got to make the rounds of the cars almost twice. It was worth it and I still can't the smile off my face.
