Are you kidding? The ignorance in the areas that you stated, is a very solvable problem.
Try campaigning one as a privateer and get back to me See all of those stickers on your example "private" vehicle? Those are all SPONSORS and the person entering the vehicle is also a PRO in GERMANY.
In 3 years, perhaps my opinion will change, until then all those issues are both very real and difficult. Just my semi-pro racer and owner experienced opinion of course
Yes, GT-R early adopters will face the same challenges...but at least they get a car that stock is much faster than almost anything else out there for at least double, perhaps triple the price.. On the other hand, an R8 and 911S are about equal on the track which means a very slightly modded Cayman S is as well.
I don't think most of us are thinking that having their cars ready to race at the Nurburgring 24hr., is the same idea as having the perfect "daily driver and a blast at the track on weekends".
I would guess that car is Audi's stock color Imola Yellow. I don't think they have "paint to match" but they do offer any color in the Audi palette on any model for an upcharge of about $3000. I've seen a new gen TT in yellow even though that's not one of their stock colors.

If Ken's buddy is serious about getting one... and Cold Croc has a deposit he's not sure he want to go through with, why don't the two get together.
Cold Croc can flip the car for a very modest profit (sounds like you're ready to just let it go for nothing anyway), and Ken's buddy can actually spec his car and get it in 4 months or so. Win-win.

I have passed on Cold Croc's info to my neighbor and am waiting to hear back from him, heck if he doesn't take it maybe I will, if I can get yellow of course!
See this month's Panorama, p.62 and a second article p.70. Since PAG bought VW, good chance, bye bye R8. Low volume, not profitable. Better buy that R8 now, two different articles ... same comment. That's one way to get rid of the competition. Buy them
With two new models due out soon: an R10 and the TDI, I think you will be able to get used R8s for about 80% of sticker here soon. People who buy these cars aren't stretching to figure out which engine to get, so the guys who have the bang to be at the top of the list with their dealers will be the guys trading up to the "real" R cars. (I am kidding, of course, as the "plain 'ol" R8 works just fine by me). So, Ken, if your buddy can wait, there will probably be a pre-owned R8 with his name on it soon.

But if you can believe the articles about PAG's intention, there may no be any more "toys". No R10, no more R8 ... nothing.
This is a good answer for beating the competition. Buy them. Just like Ford tried to buy Ferrari. When they failed, they spent many resources to beat Ferrari at Le Mans, and did.
Well, if they do nix the R8, I hope they do it soon. It will make my car double its value overnight as it becomes a great collector's classic piece of sports car memorabilia. And the fewer the miles, the better its value.
Honestly I don't think the Volkswagen Group will do it. Once Dr. Porsche and his people are elected to the Board, he will be judged not as boss of Porsche, but as a top executive of the Volkswagen Group. And Audi has become a very big part of the Group's profitability. The Porsche people will need to justify to the rest of the board just why Audi should terminate its very successful R8 program that has redefined Audi quite favorably in many ways. I can't imagine that Audi's building of a hi tech competitor to Porsche's own cars, is a legitimate enough "business" reason for the other board members of the Volkswagen Group to quit the R8 program. The board is paid only to look for the long term position and profitability of the whole larger company, and will see any sentimental insecurity on the Porsche people's part, as very bad form indeed.
