Indy 500

While watching this race has been mostly boring, I must say I seem to be pulling for Schecter (sp?) it could be because he has a yellow and black car.

I have to give props to Tony Kannan, taken out by his team mate Marco Andretti and he doesn't slug the kid. He did an awesome job of keeping his car under control, everyone should watch his hand/foot work in slow mo during that crash and how he keeps the car going where he wants it to go despite the actions of others around him. I didn't realize he's led the Indy 500 for 7 different races but never won. I'm sure he'll get the win sooner or later, seems to be a very good driver.

My overwhelming impression of the coverage was, "Thank you, Mr. Dixon, and now back to our coverage of Danica Patrick's tantrum."

Kudos to ABC

I give props to ABC for covering Indy in HD, including the in-car cameras.

It was a perfect race day at the brickyard and in comparison to the rainy armco shrouded street track in Monte Carlo, I actually found Indy to be better entertainment. As beautiful as Monte Carlo is, although much less so in the rain, Monaco is hardly the place to be racing these beautiful high-tech cars, especially in the wet.

All-in-all, though, a very good day for race car fans.

Ironic that F1 will not be visiting the United States this year. Perhaps this is one reason Indy had a better turn-out than in recent years? Perhaps Open-Wheel racing has a future in North America after all even without the F1 circus in the USA?

Their tag line “the 33 best open wheel drivers in the world” is one of the biggest exaggerations in the sporting world. I thought the camera/HD coverage was good but that was about it for me (disclaimer – I dislike oval racing of any kind) and their over promotion of Patrick is wearing as well.

Now the F1 race in Monaco’s narrow streets in the rain with all that h.p. and no traction control was thrilling to me. Next year when the aerodynamic wings get reduced and they return to slicks promises to be even more exciting.

Danica's justifiable "tantrum" . . .

I agree that Danica probably gets more coverage than she deserves based on her record - though I do think her success has sparked more interest in Indy car racing - and let's face it Open Wheel racing in the US needs all the help it can get.

I was just kind of disappointed that the track officials intervened before she got a chance to open a can of NASCAR-style whup-@ss on Ryan Briscoe, for taking her out of the race.

I attended Indy Lights race yesterday and the Indy 500 today. Great weather in Indy this weekend, it was a lot of fun.
