At first, I was reading that with stunned amazement. Then, I read further, and realized it was an "April Fools" type joke. Considering the huge quantity of irate/dumbstruck responses, a lot of people got sucked in with that one.

However, here's a true story that might have been the starting point for that joke: When Chevy first brought out the small block V8, the piston rings were not wearing-in properly. Turned out that they used the wrong material for the rings (too hard). To "fix" the problem and avoid warranty-ing all those engines, Chevy instructed their dealers to slowly pour a tablespoon of Bon-Ami metal polish down the carburetor while the engine was running. Apparently, this worked quite nicely. No idea how much this affected long-term engine life, though....
