No manual tranny from Porsche in as little as 5yrs???

Like DSG, it’s effectively two gearboxes joined together, one containing the odd gears, the other the even, each having its own clutch. It’s being introduced as a faster-shifting, more economical and more responsive replacement for the old five-speed Tiptronic, but Porsche engineers confided that it could completely replace the six-speed manual on Porsches within five years.

And the full story....................

I'll probably start driving something else if that happens. Driving a pure stick is too much fun for me.

I've driven just about every "auto/DSG" type of tranny out there,....Audi, BMW, etc. and have friends that own them. While novel at first, you tend to grow tired of their little quirks and deficiencies (for the street) over time. Most owners I know would like their sticks back. Maybe Porsches' will be better somehow.

It's still relatively new technology compared to manuals and traditional auto boxes. It's inevitable that they will improve and quickly. I think it's going to be in all our futures for better or worse.

I would be more concerned if it said 'the engineers AND marketeers'. Being an engineer, I've seen a lot of them forgetting that sometimes the machine has to interface and satisfy a human!
