Shrouded in a zebra-like camouflage, Honda’s new V10 supercar finally broke cover this week. And it’s the latest step in a project to replace the NSX.
Our spies caught the model lapping the Nürburgring in Germany. Development has only just started, and engineers have two targets.
Firstly, they have been challenged to get the two-door’s suspension set-up just right. But more than that, Honda wants to build the fastest production model around the circuit. And while the mechanical tweaks will be familiar territory for the firm’s technicians, breaking the lap record will be no mean feat – as the newcomer’s rivals, the Nissan GT-R and Lexus LF-A, are both capable of sub-seven minute 30 second laps of the legendary 13-mile race track.
The as-yet-unnamed coupé will get a 550bhp 5.5-litre V10 with cylinder deactivation technology. That means it will shut down five cylinders when engine load is light, thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Torque is set to top 570Nm, too. One source told us the 2+2 will wear a ‘hybrid’ aluminium and steel body to reduce weight, and sit on a modified version of the US Acura RL saloon platform.
An eight-speed auto gearbox with paddleshifters is on the cards, while hi-tech four-wheel drive will provide the best possible traction.
Expect the newcomer to debut in late 2010 or early 2011, when it’s likely to cost upwards of Ł90,000.

is it just me, or are Japanese exotics getting decidedly less exotic looking? It's a pretty design, but doesn't seem to exude exotic car sexiness that was the target of the original NSX. I could say the same thing about the GT-R.
The original NSX also didn't share a platform with an Acura sedan. On balance, it looks like they're aiming this car squarely at the GT-R, and not at the purebred exotic Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the world. I'm sure the performance will be on par with ultra exotics, but it's not likely to make people lust after it once the initial novelty's worn off.

what the paint color is not exotic enough for you....zebracraptopolis looks good on any car. but you are right, they look like the dime a dozen Detroit has been know to produce without the planned obsolescent part
I love to see these new sports/GT cars!
The appearance of this new NSX is much better than the GT-R.
The Lexus LF-A is a real beauty and ranks as a most beautiful front engined car.
I am seriously disappointed that all three of these new Japanese super cars went with front engine designs. Not one of these is mid-engine!!!

Yep....lots of guys waiting for next NSX are finding their way to Cayman. So sad Honda had a chance to stand-out for mid-engine desing and took the easy way out instead

I agree, they are all starting to look like just another coupe rather than a true sports car. It could even be mistaken for a redesigned 350 z.

Or a damned nice looking Prelude . . .

2005 Ford Expedition (to haul the CS)
2006 Lexus RX400h (wifey's)
Gone, but not forgotten: 2002 WRX, 2004 MINI
I'm one of those folks who waited for years to purchase an NSX replacement... the 6+ years spent with the NSX were super. Yet the CS makes me smile every time I slide behind the wheel. Just did a Cincinnati to Grand Rapids weekend trip with my Bride. It was a wonderful ride!!! My wife was a bit fearful the CS would be "loud and bumpy". The 08 CS was a delight for the 5 hours each way. The NSX was a great driver, too. The NSX1991 design is a classic for its time - and the hands of time have moved. Thrilled to have the CS in the stable.
