The details of the new Lotus look to be remarkably similar to the Cayman. Although I'd expect a Lotus to be lighter... not sure why I'd get this vs. a CS unless the price is pretty compelling. Still, it's interesting seeing Lotus aiming for a bit more "practical" sports car, especially after the Europa which doesn't seem to be doing all that well.
I kinda like it. Its trying some new stuff and overall I think its successful. The rear looks a little cheap, and it certainly isn't a Cayman. The car definitely looks more sophisticated without the old front nose on the Exige. And if it can handle anything like an Exige,.. and with similar power to weight, then the car is a welcome addition to our World.
How can it be a 2+2 and be mid engine? The front wind screen comes so far forward, so it MUST be mid-engine.
The last thing I want to see are more new, hi tech designed front-engine sports/GT cars.

Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 producing 280 PS, the new car employs innovative lightweight chassis technology to ensure visceral all-round dynamic performance, in keeping with the great Lotus tradition. Even in the very early stages of development testing, Lotus ride and handling engineers report that it is considerably faster around the famously demanding Nürburgring circuit than the Elise and more stable at speed than the Exige.

Have to admit I prefer the old over the new, the redesign reminds me of a lot of other cars currently on the street, and it kind of loses that factor that makes it "distinctly lotus". My personal reaction while looking at the side profile is as follows: Rear quarter panel brings corvette to mind, center cabin windows/windshield reminds me of koenigsegg, front end slope slightly reminds me of ferrari. Previous generations all sections spoke "lotus" loud and clear to me. Maybe I'm just resistant to change, but I do not see any of these changes as styling improvements.

A good friend of mine, ex-Porsche nut, was regional president of PCA the year after I was, bought an Elise this spring. To me, it's a great track car, but can't see how you could live with it on the street. For example, I think the Cayman has great ingress/egress for a sports car, but it took me 15-20 seconds to get into his Elise, and that was with the roof off! Not sure I could slither my 6 foot frame into that car with the roof installed. And don't even ask about luggage space, my old Bugeye Sprite was more practical there!
I wonder how much bigger the Eagle is really going to be.

It's funny when the Elise came out people were saying how non-Lotus like the car looked and how "new was not as good as the old" etc. etc. Now people seem to think that the Elise "is" the way a Lotus should look and it has become "old"... kinda funny actually...

I'm sure that Lotus will be adding some kind of forced induction engine upgrade to this new model within a year or two of its release. And make no mistake about it, Cayman S track lovers,... On the track, the Lotus Elise and Exige cars are the main competition for Cayman S drivers. No other series of cars regularly matches the Cayman S so well, turn after turn, day after day, as these fun and fast turning machines. These Lotus cars are very worthy competitors to the Cayman S with the main difference usually being the quality of the drivers.

That Toyota V6 is mounted transverse in the Camry, which makes it really compact in the fore-aft direction. I can see them fitting it right on top of the rear axle and still putting "seats" of some kind in front of it.
They're saying the Eagle is faster around the 'ring, but that could have a lot to do with just having more engine. The Exige is still mostly limited by the Toyota 4-banger powering it on a track with long straights (although it eats autocrosses for breakfast). Still wondering how the Eagle will stack up against the CS -- in track times, comfort, and price.
