G35 Coupe Brakes

A friend of mine has a G35 Coupe with Brembo Brakes, he was told when he bought it the brakes would need replacing every 25, 000 mile or so. He just got an estimate to replace the pads and rotors of $2600 which was more than he expected. Does any one have experience with these brakes and know if they really should need replacing and if the cost sounds reasonable. He has never tracked the car, just normal city driving.

I had the rear brakes serviced on my G35 and the dealer told me it was something around a 2000 dollar job but mine was covered under warranty.

The G35's have been wearing out brake pads pretty quickly which supposedly is a result of both the cars weight and the type of pads used. I'd be surprised if he really needed new rotors unless he drove metal to metal for awhile and gouged them. Check a site like FreshAlloy.com and you'll find a whole bunch of messages there on G35 brakes. Sounds pretty pricey to me, but then Infiniti only sold 9000 cars all of last month so maybe they are trying to find other ways of making money... Supposedly the rotors on the g35 are too thin to be machined and always require replacement. tirerack.com has the brembo rotors for about 380/pair and the pads are something like 200. it's really not that hard of a job to do it yourself if the dealer won't do it for a reasonable cost.

I agree. I got Stoptech replacement rotors and Carbotech pads on my 350Z for a deal: 560.00. Installed it myself. The Stoptech rotors will not have to be replaced the next time the pads wear out. This was my track car.

Thanks for the info, he managed to talk them down to $1900, they told him the guy who gave him the original estimate which was $3000 got it wrong. We think he probably took the price of a pair of rotors as the price per rotor. The Inifinity dealership quoted him $2550 and the original place agreed to match that. He then got some more rotor prices off the internet and got them to $1900. I think he could have done better but he had already given them him credit card to order the rotors. It was certainly interesting to read the freshalloy forums about the 03/04 G35 6MT brake issues.

The pads of my G35c lasted about 10,000 miles. The costwas covered by Infiniti, who agreed to warrantybrake replacements up to 20,000 miles as I recall. After the 2004 model year I believe Infiniti stopped offering Brembos as an option. <o></o>[/quote]

Infiniti was having lots of wear issues and noise complaints with the Brembos, which is one of the reasons they stopped making them standard equipment on the G35 starting with my year (2005). I really wish they hadn't and if it looked like I was going to keep my car I'd ask your friend if he wanted to trade his Brembos for the 2005 regularbrakes. I've tried finding some and have never had any takers.Infiniti does charge a lot for replacing the brakes and someone with basic tool skills can buy the parts a lot cheaper and change the rotors and pads. Depending on how many miles he has and how old the car is he may have been able to get them covered under warranty and may have to take the car to a couple of dealerships and/or make some noise with Infiniti. I've heard of it being done under warranty in a few cases.
