BMW M6 actually has 400 horses...

...yes, thats right the M6 is actually 400 horses..only when you select a special sport option on the i-drive it becomes a 500 bhp monster. So for evryday driving u get only 400horses on the tap...hmmm wonder why the hell do they do this..who would want 400...when 500 ispossible?!?!??!?!

So the figure, knot to 60in 4.7sec or whatever requires a2 minute prepartion before udo get the under 5 sec acceleration.

step one- select the traction under a level 3 sport function

step 2-Increase the 'speed of the gear change' in the SMG to level 7

step 3-Get intothe idrive...select vehicle function (tough to find!!!@#)...under this, click under power..there are 3 options 400, 500, 500 sport

step 4-click on 500 sport and then come out of the idrive function to activate it

phew!!! finally you are set to go 0-60 in 2.47 mins!!!!

come to think of it. porsche is all driver focused...less computer inteference...that equates to more fun!!! and usuable power!

I think you can create a macro and assign it to a button So the first time it is 124.7 sec, the second and after 4.7, and I would think they do it to save fuel. Allows them to claim low 0-100Km numbers and a good fuel millage ( of course without telling people they have to re-configure the car )

I think its more of a measure for fuel efficiency.

The previous generation V12 N/A S600s would have the car run on only 6 cylinders if you wanted to save fuel.

I understand your point about too much interference, but I think the idea is cool. Kind of like an overboost button that the 997 turbo has(albeit for only 10 seconds).

Every high-performing car has their own 'thing' so I don't consider this unusual. I do however agree that the whole process of getting to 500 HP is tedious. In the end, M5 and M6 owners won't care.

This is almost the same quote from UK's Top Gear review of the M6. What they fail to mention is that it could all be programmed (among other settings) on the "M" button on the steering wheel, so the driver can flip through with a one touch when needed! Great for both worlds!
