No--Some people give their religious beliefs very high priority in their lives and they can't imagine sharing their life with someone with a different belief system. It may be a personal inability or social pressure from their fellow believers. OTOH, the minister that married us is married to an atheist physician and they seem to have a very strong, committed relationship. If you're dealing with this situation, it's probably best dealt with early on.
I could not have said it any better than Andy did. I am a pretty ope minded person who honors all beliefs out of respect for that individual, but I am in the minority.
I wouldn't mind dating someone with different religous beliefs than me unless their beliefs were so strong that it caused their actions to be actions that I did not like.
I think that since most religions preach tolerance andcompasion than anybody who loves you as a person but leaves you because of only the differences in your beliefs is shallow or hipocritcal on some level. But it really depends on the situation, the people, the religions, and the beliefs...it could go either way. I'm very open mindedand tolerant and could have a relationship with someone from just about any moderate faith, but I might have trouble with a gf that was a fanatic of anysort...but it would be less because of her differing religion and more because of her fanaticism. Though I'd expect her to respect my car fanaticism....so go figure
I wouldn't say it was shallow, but either more of a lack of open-mindedness or else a fear of the unknown. It depends on whether the person didn't want to tolerate another faith b/c of his own lack of tolerance, or whether that was more steeped in family values and pressure and upbringing that would be very hard to overcome. People would rather not face such an intial uphill battle given that relationships by themselvesare so hard to make work anyway.
I myself am not very religious, and I would probably find it quite difficult to date somebody who was (and the same would hold true for them dating me, I imagine).
I once dated a woman from Iran. Then I found out that if a woman of her Islamic faith has sex with a non-believer, that he/me could be sentenced to death. Game over.
Life would be simple if it would stay on the race track ...

In the words of Admiral James Stockdale. 'Who am I? Why am I here?' Religion is so important to some people that they can't abide a lack there of in others. For me, I welcome intellectual sparring with the 'heathen' class (just kidding). Mike, I will assume for this post that the object of your desire had a deeply felt religious conviction that you did not share. At first glance, I would be a bit dissapointed in this person as I think most faiths encourage sharing, not retreat. On the other hand, maybe that person doesn't think that their spiritual life at this point would be enhanced by such a challenge. So, 'shallow' no I wouldn't say so. Just be leary of girls with arabic sounding names who want to fit you for a vest.
Since relationships are essentially about compatibility it can be taken as axiomatic that anything that significantly impairs that overallcompatibility is deadly to a relationship. It doesn't matter whether the reasons are shallow or profound in the eye of whomever the beholder. People have in the past, and are presently, killing and dyingover religious beliefs so endingor refusing a relationship over such matters should come as no surprise, 21st century notwithstanding.
no. its hard enough in todays society to keep a marriage or dating relationship healthy....differences in religeous beliefs may just add more headache for you in the long run...especially when it comes to raising children...(probably the last thing on your mind right now huh?)
Religion makes no difference to me but I make it a point never to date Italians, Japanese, Irish, Mexicans, or womenof Icelandic descent. Further, I have no patience for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, or Whigs.I never open a door for a woman who is fat,has a tattoo, orpiercings of any sort. Hip Hop and Rap musicare the devil's work (as is music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s). There is only one true car, Porsche. All other makes aredriven by infidels, idol worshipers, and a lower caste of unmentionables. Thank goodness we live in an enlightened, tolerant world, where I am accepted for my<strike>prejudices</strike>, I mean views.
I'm not shallow or intolerant....just very lonely. eharmony.com [img]/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/heart.gif[/img]rejected my profile...now that is shallow.
