[LAST TIME I CHECKED THE AUDI R8 IS NOT A CAYMAN AND THUS DOESN'T BELONG IN CAYMAN CHAT - PLEASE POST IN OFF-TOPIC AS APPROPRIATE - I AM MOVING THIS TOPIC THERE NOW]
I suspect that it is great car. However, I think it is quite UGLY. It has a trendy/edgy style that would wear on me or look "dated" after a few years. A 993, 997, 964 or pre-88 911 still look very sexy to most casual observers. Of course the CS is hot.
A great NFS MW inspired web site. A great variation of the Gallardo. Mid-Engined cars? Bring-em on! Let's see how much longer PAG builds a 911 with the engine hanging off the back-end of the rear axle.
I've read that it should hit the states just under $100K for the V-8 (420HP) and the 470HP V-10 for about $125K. The black car with silver pylon stripe behind the B pillar is freakin' awesome looking...It's the opposite scheme of the above pic by MP.
I love the visible engine, and think the back looks great. The front is the best looking of the current Audis, but i still don't love the huge grille. the side panels look awful to me with them darker than the rest of the car. might look good with the panels being silver on a black car. interior is, as expected, amazing looking. priced about right, i guess--not a bargain, but aimed squarely at Porsche buyers, no? this for sure leaves the Z4 and SLK in the dust. Sign me up for one--I'll park it next to the Cayman S!
This is the Ford GT or the BMW Z8 of the Audi line. The problem for this car like those just mentioined is going to be that it's from the same company that makes most of it's bucks selling A3s, A4s,and A6s. No matter how good the car is (ie the NSX) the brand doesn't have a supercar legacy needed to sustain sales in such a vehicle. It will likely not have many parts in common with other Audis and will not be produced in enough numbers to bring the price down over time (not to mention what parts will run you when they need replacing). What auto enthusiasts can hope for, though, is that the platform is designed in such a way that future mainstreamAudis can ride on it. I applaud them for their efforts, but aren't they already making Lambos?

I agree, no supercar legacy, but a great racing heritage - Lemans, Touring Car, GT, and Rally of course.
I think people have been waiting for a high performance 'true' sports car from Audi for a long time. We will have to see how it performs when all is said and done. I am a huge Audi fan so I myself am looking forward to the R. I still don't think Audi will ever build a sports car though that can truly compete with the likes of Porsche.
They do however build the best damn looking cars in the world, both inside and out
Trendy? Maybe but it sure does look hot. Serious performance to go with it as well. Hey, the Lamborghini Gallardo is trendy too but that sure does not mean I don't want one!
I think Audi is going to do very well with this car. Audi and high performance are hand in hand these days...RS4, S4, S6, S8, R10 and now this.
I'll take the Daytona Grey with the carbon inserts, please.
