Computer/Windows help

I'm trying to speed up the startup of my computer and have been told to deselect startup items that I do not need. So I've gone to Start>Run>typed "msconfig">selected "startup" tab... I also was told that I should not deselect items that are part of Windows. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how can I tell on some of the not obvious item names? For example "RecGuard" or "EabServr" or "QPService"?? Does the location or command of each particular item give it away? TIA!

Go into the 'services' tab and check 'hide all microsoft services', this way you will only get to see the stuff that windows doesnt need in the booting procedure. Most of the stuff on there you dont need, though i recommend leaving stuff like your antivirus app or a third party firewall if ur using one.

Then if you go to the 'startup' tab, most of these have nothing to do with starting windows, yet some may be related to apps u have installed or drivers. Id say just uncheck the ones ur sure u wont need and leave the rest.

to boost speed try using an app called bootvis, it will increase the speed incredibly!

If you're not sure what an item is, just try googling it. You'll be amazed at how much info you'll find.
