Cannon Ball AKA Gumball 3000

I posted a link to the event this year in the States in Off Topic and was a bit surprised it got so few interest. I have actively been trying to recruit a friend or co-fan to go in halves with the buy in, 10K US (5 a piece) for this summer's event.

Seems to me like a small price to pay for a Ocean to ocean Rally with as much planning, parties and fun as this. Check out Google videos of past events with a google search of, "google video Gumaball 3000 2006 episode 1"

I get my New Caymen S this January/Feb and want to do the NY to LA or Washington to LA this summer. I just can not afford the full 10K entry.

akarally is similar and much cheaper ($3,000), but you have to put some vinyl sponsor decals on your car. http://www.akarally.com/.

I would love to participate in a real, organized rally event like the Gumball I'm sure it would be an amazing experience!

Top speed in a Ferrari Daytona in 1971: 172 mph.
Top speed in a Porsche Cayman S in 2006: 171 mph.

Is this a great time to be a car nut, or what?

Turn Carver,
I agree. I made the point in a forum a few months back that our little CS performs like the ultimate super cars of the late 60's and early 70's; specifically the Daytona and the Lamborghini Muira. Back then, those cars were considered silly fast, and I can remember being so amazed by the performance of those two cars. It is sorta thrilling to know that the CS matches the performance figures of those two magnificant, now antique automobiles. Now you have street sports cars pumping out the horsepower of the NA 917's of that era. Cars have come along way! Perhaps the supercars of today are too much to handle for the average wealthy person (or non-wealthy person) of today who can afford one, but I sure wouldn't want to legislate away their right to buy one! And now, those cars are approaching the power of the 917/30 of the early 70's. Amazing!
Tony
