Some things don't need to be seen to be understood. The tasteless comments on the linked site should not even be offered to members of the CC.No parent could or would ever expect this to happen even though they know it's possible. My sympathy to the family and my hope is that this link is removed.
I think I know what the links were and to correct the story, I don't believe they bought the car for the 18 year old. I believe she stole it when she was drunk.
Another big car forum had the links up a few days ago. I never actually looked at the pictures but just reading some of the comments, I don't want to.
I tend to be sensitive about that kind of stuff and would rather try to preserve my sanity.
Because I also drive a Porsche and have a wonderful 18 year old daughter, I found the pictures on another web site, thinking that perhaps showing them to my daughter might act as a deterrant to her ever speeding in my CS if she ever asks to drive it. It took one skipped beat of my heart (when I saw the pictures) to decide there are probably better ways to convince her not to speed. I don't know how these things work, but In all sincereity I hope the poor young lady's parents never have to view those pictures. And I certainly hope they don't have to view the body for identification purposes. As a parent myself, I don't know if it is possible to ever recover from such a tragic event. My heart goes out to them. I hope that some day they will be able to experience happiness again.
Those pictures sound gross... I'm going to save the time and not look them up on the internet. It's easy to speed whether you have a high h.p. porsche, or low h.p. Honda; I got my second speeding ticket in my old Honda Accord, and since then I've done all I can to keep within 7 mph of the speed limit. It's been almost three years and havn't gotten a ticket for speeding, and I've noticed in Gainesville and Tampa, traffic cops are ruthless and around every corner. I plan to keep my speeding to a track after I get all the proper training, that way at least I can keep road obstacles at a minimum.
Something I am guilty of is using first gear to its fullest getting to the average 45mph limit :P, needless to say I get crappy mileage.
This story is definitely making the rounds, I saw the story and pics linked to another site I frequent several days ago. Gross and shocking, but real life. This is sobering testament to what can happen when lack of discretion and experience overcome good judgment. I don't have any kids of my own, but am around teenagers on my cycling team a lot. I make a point whenever I can that driving should be treated as a privilege and an activity that requires all of the judgment and attention that you can muster.
