Tips to Avoid Getting Noticed for Speeding

...assuming only on road with posted greater than 50 mph, no potential pedestrians and capable of handling more than posted.

What are your tips?

1. Do extreme speeding in short burst only at night with radar dectector on
2. Constantly check rear view mirror to assess situation around you before speeding.
NIGHT: Go for it if truck lights in both lanes of multi lane highway. NIGHT: Go for it if small car lights in rear view mirror. NIGHT: Caution if cars in mirror are traveling same speed in both lanes of multi lane highway
3. Speed only in right lane (or slow lane) of multi lane highway.
4. Always slow before blind spots or wide sweeping corners. Don't trust radar detector. Always anticipate that he is positioned "just around the corner"
5. Check highway on-ramp for entering police car.
6. Look for police car to re enter highway on the on ramp after noticing police car exit highway.
7. Look for sudden braking ahead of you
8. Speed only if cars around you are traveling at least 10 mph over
9. Only speed on section of road with no intersections
10. Never "move into" passing lane of multi lane highway to speed.
11. Never speed with approaching traffic on 2 lane road.
12. Never pass on 2 lane lane road if have to exceed 10+ mph over posted.

My "top tips" in no specific order.

Don't speed. Take advantage of PCA track days.

11. Use Crusie Control set within 10 mph of the limit when you're not paying attention. This can prevent those surprise tickets (when you didn't even realize you were speeding).

12. Install and learn how to use a good radar detector / laser jammer. Face it, we all risk a ticket from time to time.

13. Remember cops are human. When the weather turns real nice, (like the first real sunny warm day of spring) they want to be outside just as much as we do. I've noticed that speed traps are far more common on real nice weather days. Cops don't want to be standing outside in bad weather handing you a ticket.

14. Have counter measures ready to go. I always drive with a box of donuts. If being pursued, just toss them out the window in front of the cop car. They will shut down the highway until they recover each and every donut. (OK, I made this one up, but it's funny thinking that someone might actually try it..... )

I've had pretty good luck with not getting many tickets (knock on wood) over the years with a few simple maxims.
1. Use a good radar detector, I swear by my V1.
2. Be realistic, 80-90mph in a 70 is not too outrageous. Driving over 100mph in traffic is dangerous and draws undue attention. Not to mention, if/when your radar detector goes off, you will not be able to scrub off 30-40 mph.
3. Be visually aware. Radar detector isn't going to help much with instant on. Always be scanning oncoming traffic, and entrance ramps, etc.
4. That brings up speeding at night. You can't see so you're automatically at a major disadvantage, I generally will set the cruise just a little over the speed limit at night, unless ALL of traffic around me is going faster.
5. Stay in the right lane as much as possible. Didn't your father ever tell you the left lane is for passing? Makes you less noticeable, and more courteous to other drivers, and sets an example for the left-lane squatters.
6. Last but not least, I am not bragging about speeding. I am being honest, I find it hard to drive any of my cars on the open road at the posted limits. I do not endanger myself or others by bonehead moves just to get ahead a car length. I accept the possibility that I might get ticketed for speeding. And for really intense performance driving, the track or auto-X course is the only place, not the street.

I believe that, on a road where all cars are travelling in excess of the speed limit, numerous or aggressive lane changes will get you singled out even if you are only slightly faster than others.
Also, not too sure about the "do your speeding in the right lane" advice. That always seems blatant to me AND that is where all the ladders and tire treads are!
