I new the Cayman grabs attention but this is not what I wanted. Took a friend home late last Sunday and waited for her to go inside her apartment as I waited in my Cayman. After she went into her apartment I turned my head to back out I noticed a car parked behind me blocking me. The next thing I heard was a voice asking for my money and out of the corner of my eye noticed he had a gun aimed at my head. Well luckely he took the cash I had and left me and my Cayman alone. Living in Houston I should know better and to be more carefull. Any of you folks living in a major city keep in mind you can attract attention with your Cayman that you don't want.
It was in Soutwest Houston near the Galaria. You would't think it would be a part of town that is a problem. Just shows you never let your guard down when your in your car at night.
Please remember this is Houston and alot of the folks here like to do their X-mas shopping in the parking lots of the nicer shopping centers here in town, especially the Galleria area. Crime always goes up in these parts this time of year (as expect in most large urban areas), so be as aware of your surroundings when not driving as when you are.
That said either of you going to the DE this weekend?
I'm a lifetime Houstonian too. Really don't think it was your car that attracted the robber, you were just a victim of opportunity. I do agree in general that during the holiday season this kind of stuff increases, especially around shopping areas. On an unrelated note, I am going to a Car and Driver "Be an editor for the day" event at Reliant Park tomorrow, anyone else signed up for that?

The only car I've had stolen was when I lived in El Paso. They took my wife's '94 Jeep Cherokee from a hospital parking lot. The car was never recovered (I'm sure it was in Mexico five minutes after it was stolen).
If I could find the guy who stole it, I would pin a medal on him.
<glad to be out of Texas (no offense)

Wow, that's horrible, glad to hear nothing happened. You don't sound too shaken up by it. I was mugged once in college (surrounded by 7 big guys) and it took me about 6 months to walk by myself again.
Remember it takes a good 3/4 to a second for him to realize he is going to pull the trigger, work on those reflexes to where you can disarm him in .5 seconds and you should be fine.
I might suggest not driving in that area aftwards too..
That does suck. I too am glad you're OK. I bet you'll be keeping your eyes wide open for a while.
I can't imagine what I would do in this situation. I could only wish that it would turn out as your situation did, with a loss of cash and nothing else.
I have a concealed weapons permit and I used to carry a firearm quite often. I don't really carry any more. I wonder what would have transpired if this happened to me while I was carrying. Just the thought of it is scary because someone, including myself, could have gotten killed. But then again, when I did carry it, it forced me to be hyper observant to everything and everyone around me. Was there any way out, or were you trapped?
