That reminds me of whenever I go through one of those swing down gates after someone has just gone through; I always go as fast as I can out the fear that my wheel driving over the sensor somehow don't register causing the bar to fall on my car.

Funny video though; I don't remember seeng such mechanisms when I was in Manchester in 2001.

I don't know. I would certainly put this down as the stupidest disregard-for-safety device that I've ever seen. I wouldn't blame the drivers unless this is something that is common everywhere. Seems like a *really* bad design. In fact, it seems like it is designed to intentionally spike cars. Would some flashing lights, and a simple optical sensor have been too much to install?

to be fair though Yancy if you have been to the site you would realise you have got to be pretty thick to try and drive through that area!
