I've been trying to figure out if joining PCA is right for me. I would like to know why people join. I did a search here that didn't turn up much except this bit from K-Man S:
Last, but not least, if you are a PCA member (you did join didn't you?) there are PCA members who can review your situation and go to bat for you if they feel it is justified.
In addition I looked at the PCA site for benefits:
1. Receive a free subscription to Porsche Panorama
2. Local Regions with local newsletters and events.
3. Vast technical publications
4. Tech Committee available to answer your questions. Specialists for all models plus exteriors/interiors and historic race cars.
5. Valuation committee to help you establish the value of your Porsche for insurance purposes.
6. Access to specialized insurance for Porsches that are second autos/pleasure only/limited use.
7. PCA Club Racing Program — nationwide; modeled on vintage racing rules.
Annual national convention (Porsche Parade) gathers in a different location each year.
If you are a PCA member, what benefits do you value most? Are any missing from the above list?
If I missed a thread where this has already been discussed, please just direct me to the appropriate thread. Thanks!

Membership is cheap enough, and just like donating $25 to this forum to support the operations of this site, supporting the PCA is a good idea too.
Plus, in my personal experience, PCA membership garners you discounts at vendors and some dealers BS you less when you tell them that the source of info was PCA or another P-car club. Why? Some seem to be members there too :-)

I joined for Panorama but have been to a few PCA events and really like the people. I am happy I joined and think it is well worth the money.

I've been a PCA member for a few months and I keep asking myself that same question. My affiliations with other car clubs have been pretty positive, so I'm hoping that my involvement and appreciation for PCA will both increase come Spring.

Events like the annual Porsche Parade - You might want to search and read some of my recap posts about the annual Porsche parade. Well worth attending that event, next year is in San Diego, the year after is North Carolina somewhere. It is about the people.
Croctoberfest - our annual event is sponsored in part by PCA which means PCA helps fund some of the activities and that is a benefit to anyone who attends.
Someone else mentioned discounts for those who are members and that is true at several places I've dealt with. Local and regional events, events like our autocross and drivers ed events are less expensive for club members vs. non-club members.
It's pretty inexpensive to join considering all you can get out of it, but like anything what you get out of it is a direct reflection of what you put into it.
Last, but not least, this website exists in part because of PCA leadership going to bat for us with Porsche attorneys.

Quick question for those of you who know? Does the PCA region to which you are assigned contact you about membership, meetings, etc., or are you supposed to contact them?

Quick question for those of you who know? Does the PCA region to which you are assigned contact you about membership, meetings, etc., or are you supposed to contact them?
I *think* that is up to each region, however, most regions contact new members, usually the membership chairperson gives you a welcome call or sends a welcome letter (or both). The local region may not get the information that you've become a new member in their region for up to 90 days, however, due to how the national database system works (or so I hear).
I'd say if you haven't heard from them in 90 days, give them a call.
Every month I get a copy of 'Challenge', their local chapter news letter. It's really more of a small booklet. In there they tell you where the monthly meeting will be, its' topic, sponsors, etc....
There is also info about upcoming DE (Driver Education Events), Autocross events, concourse events and how to register. Some local articles, photos, and so on.
I have been a member for a long time. I used to go to the meetings every month. I participated in a road rally (first time, came in second). I participated in a couple of DE events.
Attending meetings I learned a lot about paintless dent repair, Zymol, tires, engine mods, etc..... More importantly, I made friends with local folks that shared my passion, Porsches.
You can learn a lot about the Cayman here, but you can't learn much about your local area here. The word of mouth recommendations are priceless. Where to have your tires mounted, where not to. Who was great at working on P-Cars cars, great driving routes, worth while mods, waists of money, great restaurants.
All of this for $42 a year, and you get a magazine and PCA discounts. I personally think that any and all Porsche owner/enthusiasts should join. But that's just my opinion.
