Latest issue of Winding Road: Ferrari 420 Dino

Anyone see the newest issue (it's available online)?

The prototype 420 Dino looks VERY much like a bodykitted Cayman. There are doubts as well as to whether or not this car will even be made for the mass market.

I've seen those early pics. This is an entire ARTICLE on the 420, with new photos!

I pasted a link in this thread: Ferrari Cayman (Dino) to some captures of the magazine on another forum (http://forums.finalgear.com/showthread.php?p=363942). It appears very convincing.

Not gonna happen

I agree that it's a convincing PhotoShop job, and even a GREAT looking little Ferrari, but we've all been fooled by the magazines before... Post a grainy shot of an F430 test-mule, then cut & paste vents & wheels and PRESTO! the new Dino.

It makes a great story, and I'm sure it's selling some magazines, but ask yourself this: Why would Ferrari start selling a high-production vehicle right now? They are near capacity as is, and have very little ability to do anything that's not extremely similar to their existing 430 engine or the 599/Enzo V-12. If the Dino is based on the 430 engine/chassis, then it will probably be pretty expensive, and undermine it's position in their lineup (IMHO).

PS - look for a great show called Ultimate Factories on National Geographic channel. They do a 1-hour tour of the Ferrari factory, showing how they build the new 599. Very cool!

Much as I love my Cayman, if Ferrari actually builds the Dino 420 and if it looks anything like the manipulated image of the Cayman, I'll be first in line.

A friend of mine, no stranger to Ferraris (having owned 2 355's) sent an email announcing that he would sell his brand new Exige S in heartbeat for the Dino 420.

Will Ferrari build it? Why not? Porsche and Aston have clearly shown that there is BIG demand for high-performance sports cars in the 120 to 180 k range, why would Ferrari continue to abandon that market segment?

The above aside, the Cayman/Dino Photoshop is a great looking car and a good example of what a Cayman bodykit ought to look like. Companies are coming out with modified wings, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, even a few with revised sidevents, but all these efforts are fractional at best. Why is someone not coming up with something like this for the Cayman?
