View Poll Results: Loaded Base Level Car or Stripped higher priced car?
Loaded lower "level" car they way you want it built
I faced that choice went with a lightly options CS, I figured HP cost more than I would save and the standard features are not that bad, just have to look at what do you really need and what would be nice.

I just don't see why someone would want a $70,000 car without the features they like. What is the point of spending that much money just for a more powerful engine, and foregoing all the comfort and aesthetic features that make owning a car enjoyable? I realize that I seem to have a much stronger preference for "attractive" rather than "performance" features than many/most Cayman buyers, but for this kind of money, I want the car to be exactly the way I want it (not just bigger and faster).
$50K = Cayman 2.7, metallic paint, climate control, heated seats, mid-grade stereo, 18" S wheels. 90% of the acceleration, 93% of top speed, same handling, same street braking as the S. Leftover $20K goes into wise investments.
Who says you have to spend $70,000 on a CS? I just got done with a day of autocross school and it is an unbelievable experience. Yes there are some options that I could have that would make the car faster but I still have a lot of learning to do, so would I have been faster, probably not. But to each their own, I got my car because it is a car I could have fun driving and I am.

People vote with their wallets and then have to live with the results. If you only keep a car for a couple of years (or less!) it's best to just pick up anything off the dealer's lot since it's basically a disposable commodity, and once the new wears off it's time for something else. Expensive, but it works for some people. If you plan on keeping any car for more than 24-36 months you better make sure that it can continue to entertain over the long haul. Porsche internet boards are full of buyer's remose complaints because even the base car (any model) was a financial stretch and now the person doesn't think he either got what he paid for or got enough for what he paid. I ordered my Cayman the way I wanted it and it was a 78K car out the door. If I wanted a 911 it would have been over $100K out the door. Fortunately for me the Cayman fit the bill, and after a year of ownership still does.
I will take a base GT3 over a fully loaded Cayman S if I had that choice. The GT3 wouldn't be comfortable but it's a GT3.
Not an option ... You'd have to order everything included real crocodile seats to even come close to $106 for a stripped GT3

Really? I don't see that on this board. I stopped reading the 997 boards after buying the Cayman. I can't remember people having buyers remorse but probably didn't pay attention.
Yes, I would bet getting into ANY Porsche is a financial stretch for many, many people and turning it over in 3 years is a quick way to lose money fast ... paying for the first two years depreciation and then selling is not very wise financially.
I was looking more at the
Base Cayman vs CS (or base Boxster vs S)
997 vs 997S
997S vs GT3 (which you can easily reach GT3 stripped in a 997S variant)
I agree with Silent Will. Performance, performance, performance! That's why I have a Cayman S with the performance options. PASM, short throw shifter, Sport Crono!
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

I love the starkness of the 356 and early 911's. Beyond AC and a CD player I don't need much. My CS has those two things and heated seats and not much more and I'm as happy as a clam in mud. Pedro Rodriguez didn't need AC and he sure didn't listen to music when he raced the fabulous 917. I follow his lead. To each his own.
