I called IA today to see if they could pry an update out of Aristocrat and they promised to call me back after doing so. 5 minutes later I got the best news I've had on this project for quite awhile... The cam timing issue has been fixed and the car is ready to go back to IA!

Reportedly they were able to retime the cams without having to drop the motor out so there shouldn't be any re-installation issues due to the custom nature of my beast.

On a side note...

Long overdue update

I've been keeping up with the thread but not doing so well keeping my blog updated. Sorry!

I've mostly been in a holding pattern waiting on Aristocrat/Porsche to accept that the cam timing problem was actually a manufacturing defect that they needed to remedy. IA notified Aristocrat of the problem as soon as the motor was in my car and running, and before I took delivery on MARCH 23RD...

They FINALLY had a qualified mechanic available to check the car out starting...

do over...

I drove the car up to KC on weds, and dropped it off with them iA on thursday morning. Stephen sounded a bit more positive regarding the Porsche parts manager not being stupid with him about supporting the motor. They just want to see the install and I guess verify that he didn't open the motor up and modify it. He's going to do some troubleshooting to verify its not electronic and then it will go over to them for them to check out. It shouldn't take long to figure out where we're at and then...

Delay

Posted 04-08-2008 at 05:22 PM by Itmerc
I had too much going on with work, and was simply too tired to safely take off and drive the car up to KC this morning. I needed a day to deal with work issues and recover from my buddies wedding in Vegas so I decided to put the trip off another day.

Hated to do it but it was the right decision.

Just got back from Vegas where I was a groomsman in a buddies wedding, and now I have to climb in my car and drive it back to iA so they can troubleshoot the Variocam problem the new motor is having... Yea... NOT!

Porsche corporate is trying to say that the Variocam issue was magically caused by it sitting in a Cayman as opposed to a 911 as if it caused some kind of infectious malfunction by exposing it to the much more ideal mid-engine position, despite the fact that iA made...
