Spare Tire for Cayman S

I asked teh dealer in Virginia Beach about a collapsible spare tire and wheel for the Cayman and a new one is about $900.
Does anyone have one to sell or know how to get one for much less. ?? Thanks. Ed

what do you need a spare tire for? do you travel out of cell-phone range lots?

Checked ebay?If you want one of the Vredenstein collapsible spares, you probably will have to order thru a dealer - you might also check with Suncoast (sponsor) to see if you can get a better price. They are expensive, but I believe it includes the jack and tools in the price.
A less expensive solution is to check on ebay regularly for "Porsche Spare Tire". I have only seen one Vredenstein spare auctioned off (and it went for about the retail price), but you can find the older 17" 986 Continental donut spares fairly frequently, and they will fit the Cayman S (that's where I bought mine). They generally go for between $100 and $250 depending on the condition and whether they include all the tools, jack and cover. |

 ), I just feel more secure having a spare with me for worst case scenarios (e.g. no phone or connection, tire damage too great for the goop/inflator option, etc.).My philosophy is sort of a corollary of Murphy's law - that is: if I carry it, I will never need it. well, yes of course - just wondering if he was aware of the Roadside Assistance program or the like. guess i should just ask these things directly.

I am most aware of the Porsche roadside assistance. But call me paranoid but I beleive in a gent named Murphy.
I think it might be a good $200-300 investment even if I don't use it. And yes there are holes in cell phone coverage in Virginia, especially near the mountains where the good twisty roads are. Ed |
