This will be my attempt to keep a blog on my experiences with my first ever Porsche - a Cayman S. I've dreamed of owning a Porsche, like many of you I am sure, for many years and now is my chance!
I hope to start off with a blog on my delivery experience, describing picking up my car (after a 4 month wait) in New Jersey and bringing it home to North Carolina.
After that, we'll see where the road leads me!

I'd like to start by offering a "Job Extremely Well Done!" to Ken, and congratulate him on putting together an excellent event. I don't think we can underestimate the amount of time and effort Ken and Angela put into this event, or thank them enough!
I wish I have more time to write more about my experiences, but that simply has not been the case. I'd complain about being so busy, but after what the Smiley family has been through that just wouldn't be right...
The high points for me were the Show 'N Shine, my interview with PNA, and the Gimmick Rallye. In other words, Friday.
(We had to leave Saturday morning, so we missed out on Petit LeMans and the AX.)
My car got lots of nice comments during the Show 'N Shine (especially on the cocoa interior) though not many votes, and my stock 3.4 exhaust (I represented the factory effort in shoot out) certainly didn't win the popularity contest, but it sure was cool being there to witness all the sights and sounds!
I was one of the of the folks chosen to be interviewed by PNA on Friday morning, and that was a very enjoyable experience. (Other than being recorded on camera - I hate video cameras!
) The questions were pretty general in nature, and I have to admit most of what I could say were very good things about my experiences with my first Porsche and the Cayman in particular. I did try and voice what I hope are some common concerns (at least here on the CC) about the Cayman and Porsche. Overall, the folks from the PR firm were very friendly, and seemed genuinely interested in my opinions on a range of topics.
Finally, the Gimmick Rallye was a blast! The route was most excellent and presented some challenging driving, and the questions to be answered were also challenging. My wife, who was the team navigator, is more competitive than I, and I'm sure we would not have finished 3rd (we got a trophy!) if it hadn't been for her. It sounds like there was some controversy in the scoring of the rallye (as my wife suspected - there's that competive streak again), but as far as I am concerned I wouldn't have had any less fun if we'd finished last. I'll go back and drive a couple of those roads again one day soon for sure!
All in all, it was a great event with a lot of great folks. As the saying goes - and we've all heard it a lot I'm sure - "It's not the cars, it's the people."

It would have been great to have the Remus in the mix for the exhaust shoot out. You will most certainly have to represent next time!
Croctoberfest was a most awesome time, and I hope to be able to make the next one as well. We met so many great folks and had such fun at the all the events, it's now on the "must attend if at all possible" list for sure. |
