A MODest Start

Let's See:

Venture Shield Clear Bra - check
X-Pel Headlamp Shields - check
Bose Subwoofer Stuffing Mod - check

Okay, so those aren't really performance mods, though at least the subwoofer mod did improve the performance of the CDR-24.

Softronic Snap-Flash

After following the marathon thread on this topic, I finally decided to go for it. I had just bought the Durametric software and cable, so Scott S. at Softronic kindly agreed to sell me the Softronic at the same discount he was offering for the Softronic/Durametric package.

He warned me that because I have a Tip, I would not be able to take full advantage of the changes that were offered with the Manual versions, especially the increased rev limits, because the Tip has a separate DME that is not affected by the Softronic programming.

I still wanted it because of the published HP increase, and the Sport mode changes it offered (since I don't have Sport Chrono on my CS). I also liked the fact that it allows the engine to take advantage of 100 Oct fuel, if available.

Installing it was a breeze - probably caused by the radiator cooling fan that runs like a jet turbine when you run the flash - I'm glad I hooked up my battery charger as recommended. Actually, it only took about 10 min or so to reprogram the DME.
Afterwards, I took it out for a drive.

First Impression? Well, the first thing I noticed was that the Sport mode Throttle enhancement is pretty underwhelming. I drove an Audi S4 one time with a Sport mode, and the difference of throttle response between normal and sport mode was like night and day - there had to be close to 100% increased sensitivity, to the point where it would be difficult to drive smoothly in stop and go traffic in sport mode.

On my Cayman, I find the change to be pretty subtle. The car does subjectively feel a little faster and smoother, but I'm planning on doing a little dyno testing to confirm that.
