removing a metal scratch....

Hi gang.

I'm a bit off the board topic here but I just managed to pull a bone head move this morning. While taking a trash can full of recycleables out I managed to run a metal bar along the side of my wife'e car a put a fairly deep scratch in the dark blue paint!

Can someone recommend a scratch removal product that I can apply? I went to a local auto supply store and the guy there didn't like the scratch removal products they sell and sold me a rubbing compound to try. Alas, it didn't really help. I'm not looking for a "perfect" fix but one what might at least allow me to mesh the dark blue around the scratch into the sctach itself.

Grey Eagle,

P.S....I should say, her car is not a Cayman but a Ford Explorer so I'm not looking for an all star solution [don't let her hear that!]. If I'd done it to my yet to be purchased Cayman I'd be beating myself up!!

If rubbing compound didn't do the trick, sand it, mask it, and paint it with touch up spray. Then sand it again and polish. If it looks satisfactory, clear coat it and call it a day.

Sorry man. I've had very good repair results using the autosharp pens: http://www.autovisuals.com/index.asp
If you buy one tell them you heard about it here. I've been trying to get them to become a sponsor.

Thank you!

Thanks to both of you. I am going to order the "AutoVisual" pen and try it.
It sounds like a handy thing to have around for future errant garbage hauls!
