A decade or more ago, my wife had some issues with curbs, cutting up several tires, once on a 944, another one on a MR2. Since then she has always been careful near curbs on the side. Our salemen warned us about curbs as well because the Carrera Sport Wheels stick out.
The other day I get the call ... you know the kind ... you know from the voice something is wrong. Sure enough, she didn't curb the wheel/tire. Instead she decided to drive up on the curb
When I get home, I check it looks pretty cosmetic to me. The Clearbra was torn up but I see only one tiny dot the size of a period through to the paint. Its underneath the car where you can't see it on the plastic so I get some clearcoat and give it several coats.
Forgive the pics. Lousy old point and shoot trying to do macro (focus bad). First pic straight on.
This pic is from underneath.
Today I took it to the Installer (Proform). He was great. I knew he could just do an adhoc custom patch job and sure enough, he took off the damaged clearbra and hand cut a new piece and installed it. New pic below. You would never know anything happened.
He mentioned that we were lucky because my wife immediately stopped when she heard the scraping and most people do not
Here are some of the pieces he took off. Its very easy to see where the concrete scraped up the Clearbra.

Bottom line ... the clearbra did its job
On a serious note, how’s your wife doing chows4us? Had mine done that, she would have suffered something similar to a panic attack. I’m truly glad everything’s back to normal for you. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thanks for asking. She's cool. I have mellowed out over the years
I neither have a clear bra nor a wife. 13,000 miles and the Cayman is doing fine.
No Clear Bra = $1000
No wife = $100,000+
Freedom = priceless

Marshall, I won't comment on the how much you saved not having a "wife", there's a few female cayman owners on the site, but I will comment on having a clear bra, "greatest thing" ever invented. I will never have another car without one, and I wish "my wife's" car had one now!
If a car is gonna wear a bra, it should be a clear bra. My father put those plastic, see through seat covers on the seats in his corvair. Kinda reminds me of the clear bra ...

Years ago, people put those clear plastic covers on their sofas, especially their white sofas. I never understand that reasoning of living within a musuem. When do you actually get to enjoy your sofa?
Driving in white cars out west, I realized that after a thousand mile or so, particularly in Montana, white cars, literally, became black with bugs embedded in the paint. The vinyl bras did help with the bags but had their own issues with paint scratching and paint hazing if left on wet.
I'm not a fan of the clearbra on the bonnet or fenders. No matter what anyone says, I can see the lines and I hate those lines. And so I didnt have the bonnet done. Rather, I have the clear bra where the bra, IMO, should be ... on the bottom that gets the vast majority of the bugs and dings. If you actually looked at the car, there are no seams.
And one day, I too will probably take that plastic sofa cover off and "enjoy" the paint

I was beginning to think that I was alone in my opinion of clearbra covers . (And being new to the forum I was surprised to see so much attention given to protective film.)
When I was a little kid (50 years ago ) my grandmother bought new furniture for her living room. It was really nice, high end furniture. To keep it clean she covered it in plastic. The fabric stayed nice until the day she died . . . . but you could never really enjoy sitting on the sofa.
I know that clearbra covers work but I just can't stand the "orange peel" look and the edge lines. I guess I will be sorry when the first big rock takes a chunk out of my paint . . . .
My CS is a daily driver and the roads here are ****. Went 3 months without one and already picked up a few chips. Had mine installed 3 days ago. Maybe false sense of security but I sure feel better having it. One of my friends scraped a brick wall in his 993 and the bra saved the paint. Could not believe the damage that was prevented. Bra was trashed but repairable.
wife = only $100,000?????????????
You must have a great lawyer!!!
I got a clearbra installed prior to taking delivery. Best decision I ever made. It's not absolutely perfect if you really look at it and neither is the quality of the install job, very good but not perfect, and the line where the bra ends is visible most of the time when close to the car. But even with that, I'd rather have the above imperfections then chunks of paint removed from my bumper and hood. Only wish the clearbra could have helped when that rock came out of nowhere and just caught the very top edge of my windshield...only took about 15 minutes for a 16" crack to develop. Local Porsche dealer called in a guy that did a fantastic job R/R the windshield. I ordered a Genuine Porsche windshield and now no one will ever know it was replaced...so you're all sworn to secrecy...shhhhh....
