Damnit!

@#$^%*&^%$@$!!!!!

My Cayman is barely a month old and I already scratched it... Coming around a corner in a hurry tonight, saw a small-ish object in the road, looked like a white paper cup or bag (size of a paper cup). No time to swerve, hit it and it made a loud noise. When I got out of the car a couple blocks away at home, notice I had put a deep (maybe a quarter inch at the deepest), six or so inch long, very horizontal scar just underneath the air intake on the passenger side, at the bottom near the wheel. Turns out it was a rock or similarly hard object in the absolute middle of the road. Tore the clearbra that comes on the car from the factory near the rear wheels.

Pretty upset by this, hugely pissed off that someone would leave such an object in the road, and doubly upset at myself for hitting it. I think if I carefully cut the scarred piece of clearbra off and take a permanent marker to the gouge in the plastic, it will hide ok for the time being, but anyone have any ideas as to what kind of repair bill I'm looking at to actually fix this the right way?

Thanks...

same thing happened to me, 2 weeks in, same place as yours but not as deep, i used some touch up paint and that blob removal thing seen on this website. I was very upset at it at first, but then thought maybe you have to get a little scratch to immune the car later on..

JHS----Not clear where your damage is since you say "gouge in plastic" but describe an area that is steel. Anyway, my guess would be four hours labor, $200 for filler, primer, paint, and clearcoat, and $50 for new "clearbra" from Porsche. $500-$600 ? total. Get your dealer to recommend a shop and beware of the shop with the low bid.

There is a plastic clear-bra-like cover between the door and the wheel well and underneath the air scoop. I think that's what's JHS is talking about. That part of the car is venerable to nicks.

Did you mean vulnerable? Or or you saying that his car is aiming at sainthood?

Exactly the place. I'm trying to upload a picture. Hope it works. The white you see is mostly where the clearbra peeled. I cut that bit off so it wouldn't "run" and just used a black permanent marker, for now. I have Basalt Black Metallic paint, so it doesn't match but at least it's a bit harder to see.

Bummed out about this... Need to fix it right.

Yep, that's significant and you need to get her fixed. Bummer! Place your treasures where neither moth nor rust nor thieves may harm it.

Well, I would have liked to think this was true, but I'm very sad, and very angry, to report that someone ran into me tonight... I was in the right lane going straight, very slowly in traffic, and a guy to the left of me just turned into me. HUGE dent in the rear driver-side bumper. Right on the corner. Collapsed the corner, in fact... I'm almost positive the entire rear bumper of the car has to be replaced... Called the cops, they made a report. Guy is an Israeli tourist or on a work visa or something. No insurance, and couldn't give me or the cops a straight answer as to who owned his car. F*CK!!!!!

I will try to post a picture tomorrow, right now I'm just too pissed. Any guesses on how much this is going to cost?! How long will it take if my dealer has to order a new rear bumper from Porsche?! I was supposed to "unveil" the car to a bunch of friends next weekend at a charity run with around 65 high-end exotics... Any chance in hell I'm going to be able to fix this before then...?

Anyone have any recommendations for excellent Porsche body work in the Philly area?

Thanks all...

I was quoted $800 (i think) to replace bumper. don't think this included paint. Sucks. While it's being replaced, it might be time to go with the euro bumper.
