I was preparing my CS for a track event on Monday and Tuesday and as part of preping I always wash and wax the car to help protect the paint and I take the wheels of and completely detail them, inspect the tires and brakes, check inflation and put them back on and torque.
In the middle of waxing the wheels I had an idea, I started using "Wheel Wax" this summer and quite frankly I haven't been impressed with the way the brake dust sticks to the wheels and how hard it is to get the wheels clean. I wash my car almost once a week, sometimes more, including the wheels.

I'm trying a little experiment this time. I used Wheel Wax on the right side, front and back and Collinite on the left side front and back. Now I'll see which cleans up easier and have a good idea if Wheel Wax is worth it or not.

Just for good measure I did the rotors too, I hate that rusty look..

Try Rejex.... it's great on wheels to make the brake dust easier to clean off.

I have been impressed with WheelWax but I don't wash my car. (We are in a severe drought. We cannot water our lawns or wash our cars.) I use a California mini-duster and all of the brake dust comes right off. Maybe WheelWax comes off better if the wheels aren’t wet.

Let us know how your test works. I'm very interested in a comparison.

And be careful using Rejex. It turned one of my cars tires color to an awful brown where it touched them. It also collects dust from my dirt road and causes the wheels to look dirty. Great on my glass shower however.

As I've stated numerous times, I'm no car or mechanical expert, but I've had nothing but good luck with Wheel Wax. It seems to work as advertised for me.

It seems to work for me too. The break dust comes off easily.

di dyou say you did the rotors too? don't put wax on your rotors.....that is the worst thing you can do. especially if you are going to the track. VERY DANGEROUS.

Well I cleaned the wheels this morning after 700 highway miles and 4 track sessions, the front wheels were filthy. I tried hosing them off first but that didn't do much for either the Wheel Wax wheels or the Collinite wheels, just knocked anything loose.
I then washed them with water and Mothers Car Wash and they cleaned up just about the same. The Wheel Wax wheels did seem to have less of the little balls of brake pad material stuck to them and what was there came off a little easier. Over all the Wheel Wax shine was about the same but there was less of the little balls of pad material and what was there didn't stick quite as hard.

I recently returned from an 800 mile road trip. Before getting home I stopped at the DIY car wash & hit all the wheels with the rinse setting. I've used Wheel Wax since the CS was new. Most all of the brake dust washed off. Also washed the wheel wells clean of a Pa. TP deer guts road kill.
