Clearning Clear Bra

First of all, my interest in cars and car care is about three months old now, so don't view me as any kind of expert. Having said that, I sort of just use my fingers and fingernails to very lightly rub until any grit remaining on the clear bra after washing is removed. Then I apply a liberal coat of Plexus and buff it with a micro cloth. It always seems to work.

I took my clear bra off . . . but I can tell you how to get dead bugs off of a motorcycle windscreen. The process should work for a clear bra. The key is to get the bugs wet and soft. Wet a towel, lay it across the bra and leave it there until the dead bugs get moistened. They will be easy to get off.

As kresta said, Plexus and a microfiber cloth are good to clean things up.

This scrubber from Autogeek (along with regular car wash suds) works great. With bugs, as with tire rubber and other such gunk, it's best to get them off sooner rather than later. Also, a coat of Rejex on the bumper etc. should make stuff less likely to stick.

Tried a bug/tar remover w/ mf bug towel? Its a gentle cloth that is much easier on paint/panels, etc than a some of the sponges. Spray the bug and tar remover on the bugs, let it dwell on the insects, then wash off w/ soapy bug cloth. Should work like a charm

Porsche makes a bug and tar removal spray with a scrubber that wont harm the finish and works pretty well; also Stoner makes a spray called "Tarminator" that is very effective. Remember to put a protectant on the area sprayed afterward, as most of these products will remove any wax along with the bugs.

Kresta,

Here in Florida we have a problem with Love bugs getting stuck to the front end of the cars. My CS has a clear bra, and here is how I clean it. Very easily by the way.
Use dryer sheets. Yuu know, the ones you put in the dryer to soften the close. I tryed the liquid kind but it does not work as well. So, just wet the area to be cleaned. Wet the dryer sheet and apply it to the bugs. I gently rub the dryer sheet over the area to be clean. The dryer sheet will let go a soapy liquid that softens the bugs and they wash away easily. For very stuburn bugs you may need to use a second dryer sheet. The brand I use is Bounce dryer sheets. The whole process is very gentle and I have used it several times without any visible damage to the clear bra.

If you've got really tough bug problems try a little hydrogen peroxide, softens em right up. Usually just soaking works best.

3M adhesive remover works great. Then wash and wax the area afterwards.

Ok, after you get the bugs off, what do you do? Can you/should you put wax on the clear bra? Same as you use on the rest of the car?
I'm getting one installed next week and hope it doesn't wind up being a mistake even though it may save an expensive paint job in the future.

You can wax the clear bra with whatever you use for the rest of the car. If you use one of those products that leave a residue don't wax up to the clear bra or use blue painters tape to prevent getting wax under the seam. P21S will avoid that problem as will a lot of other products. Simple Green allowed to soak a few minutes also removes bug guts.

I've been using clear bras on my cars since 2003 and I use to just wax it but ever since late 2004 I've been using Plexus. I think it works better and is easier to apply. Give good if not better protection from the enviorment.

I have complained too many times about some of the scratches in the clear bra and some of the bugs that seem to be stuck to the bra in certain areas. The installer for the Porsche dealership was kind enough to show me a great tip of getting rid of the scraches in the clear bra or hard to clean deposits. He used rubbing Alcohol on the bra applied on a rag and rubbed all over the bra. Allow it to dry then use a clean rag to wipe off the reside. The results are amazing and you will notice immidately all the scraches are removed. You also use the same for hard despoits and apply some pressure and all will be removed. This has been a great tip for me. It works, try it out

Will that damage the clear coat thats on the bra? I would imagine that will get rid of the top layer of the clear bra and expose the bra to be easily contaminated later on.

It probably does remove any wax on the bra, but it if you have scratches on the bra surface, this does the trick. It works
