What are you doing at 3:00 in the morning?

I just finished two coats of P21S on the new girl. At 10:00 pm I told myself that I was just going to do the front bumper because I saw a couple love-bugs flying around today. and wouldn't you know it. 5 hours later...

Man, work is gonna suck tomorrow.

Yeah, the lift really helps doing the bumpers and then lower half of the car. My back and knees don't end up killing me in the morning.

I got her tinted today. Limo all the way round and 50% on the windshield. I drove around quite a bit so there is a bunch of dust on her right now along with quite a few watermarks from the tinting, but still looks pretty good.

The pic last night was with my phone. These are a little bit better.

And Chris, thanks a lot for posting about and supplying the P21S. It is much easier to use than any other wax I have dealt with and finished with the instant detailer it looks awesome.

What is the percentage of transparency for "limo" tint?

In NC we can only go 35% with zero on the front windshield!

We have the same laws here. To get this type of tint job you have to pay cash. Supposedly limo tint is 5% but I don't really think it only lets 5% of the light through. On the other hand 35% doesn't look like it only lets in 35% either, looks more like 75% to me. This is much darker than 35 but visibility is not that bad. Plus visibility is not really an issue with me as I always drive with my windows down. Then when I park it you can't see anything inside the car. And with the windshield done I don't have to worry as much about the dash baking in the Florida sun.

Oh and also it looks friggin wicked.

same in hawaii for most cars. exception for vans, minivans, trucks, and buses equipped with rearview mirrors on both sides. these vehicles are allowed to have darker tints on windows to the rear of the driver.

are you saying that exceptions to the law are made for cash payments? FL law allows darker tints if you pay by cash?

No. He's saying that if you want it done that dark you have to pay cash, as in no paper trail. Operating the car with dark tint is illeagal but installing probably isn't but why test the law. If I owned the business that's what I'd do. It's called CYA!

i see.

in addition to prohibiting the darker tints (the law calls them "sun screening devices") on car windows, hawaii law also prohibits the installation of illegal tints. owners of cars with illegal tints can be fined up to $500 for each separate offense. the installer of illegal tints can be fined up to $1,000 for each separate offense. hawaii law also requires tint installers to issue a certificate to the vehicle owner certifying that the tint complies with the law.

additionally, as part of the required annual safety inspection for all cars, the window tints are tested with light meters to ensure that the tints meet the requirements of the law.

it appears that it is easier to circumvent the tint laws in FL.

Wow. That is a lot to go through. I wonder why they want to outlaw window tint so badly? The darkest tinted cars around here are all Police cars, marked and unmarked. Some of them are so dark you can barely make out the steering wheel through the windshield in the full sun.

Around here I have never heard of anyone being pulled over for having dark window tint. It is just some extra thing they can tag on when they want to give you a hard time.

My 17 year old son has a Saturn Ion Redline with dark tint on the back window. Cop pulled him over as he was turning into school and told him it was illegal but didn't ticket him.
