Product recommandations for a lazy guy?

I do not like to spend much time washing/waxing my cars. Which brand would you recommend for the following tasks?

Soap?

Sponge?

Chamois?

Microfiber towel?

Wax ?

Cheesecloth?

Windows?

Wheels?

Vinyl?

I do not need the best products. What I am looking for are products that are easy to use while doing a reasonable job.

Easy to use and fast:

soap) Optimum NoRinse. Rinse car first, then do each panel as directed. If it is really dirty I just wash it first to float off all the junk and then do each panel individually to not get water marks.

wax) P21S 100%. Very easy. Not hard to take off, no dust, buildup, etc.

In between keep it dusted with a large OXO car duster. I dust mine every night when it is cool if it is not too dirty. Will really cut down on your washing time and frequency.

And get good quality Micro fiber towels, not cheap ones.

That's my

I use the following

Soap - I use meguiars NXT with a foam gum

Sponge - I like using a sheepskin wash mit. I find it faster than a sponge.

Chamois - I use a waffle weave microfiber drying towel. Dries better than chamois

Microfiber towel - Vroom microfiber towels from taget are great OTC towels. Pakshak.com also hasgreat towels.

Wax - Collinite 476s for durability, but I find 3M Perfect It paste wax very easy to apply (if applicator is sprayed with detail spray first) and remove. You could use Zaino clear seal for ease of use. Just spray and wipe.

Cheesecloth - don't use I use microfiber towels to polish.

Windows - Stoner's invisible glass with microfiber glass towel

Wheels - I use simple green diluted 1:3 with a triangle wash mit found at target

Vinyl - #108 from fk1usa.com. It has anti static properties. I find interior stays cleaner with it.

Everyone is going to tell you what "they" like. If your really lazy like me, you just throw some soap on the roof, wait until it rains, and they drive real fast around the corners

Soap? - No need to buy anything fancy. Buy anything except Dawn.

Sponge? - Old fashioned and sacrilege. Get a cotton washmit. Never use a sponge

Chamois? - Huh? Even more old fashioned than sponges. Get a large microfiber towel.

Microfiber towel? - Despite what others may tell you about thread count or whatever, any will do. The better made, the longer they will last. It all depends, you can buy a huge bundle at like a Walmart you use once or twice or some good quality ones that will last many washes.

Wax ? Your going to get a million answers here. It all depends upon the color of the car, metallic or not, etc. See the FAQ The Cayman Club - FAQ: Questions & Answers

Cheesecloth? - Another old fashioned thing. Forget about that, microfiber does it all.

Windows? Anything w/out ammonia if you have tint.

Wheels? Wheel wax for wax, Simple Green for cleaning

Vinyl? Any product will do

You don't have to go out and buy a ton of fancy stuff. The only real issues is the "wax", which might really mean polish, glaze and wax. Go to autopia.org and read and ask the questions there. You will get far more answers from people who are into detailing.

with just reading the thread title, I immediately had a couple items come to mind. Heres my thoughts.

Soap? I agree w/ CheerIO here. Optimum car care no rinse and shine ONR You can do the car in 20 mins. No hose required. No soap to rinse off. Very easy and effective.

Sponge? well, sheepskin mitt. Holds lots of water, and releases dirt very well. Sheepskin Wash Mitt

Chamois? waffle weave drying towel. Microfiber Waffle Weave Drying Towels

Microfiber towel? Microfiber Towels

Wax ? I'm going to suggest what I first thought of here when I read the thread title. Optiseal. By far the easiest product you can use. Apply w/ a foam applicator in very thin layer then simply allow it to evaporate. No buffing, no residue and gives an awesome shine. Can layer too if you'd like. Can easily do the car in 15 mins. Opti-Seal

Cheesecloth? stick w/ the microfiber.

Windows? I personally use spray n wipe, but stoners invisible glass works well too.

Wheels? Depends how you wash. If you use ONR as listed above, I'd recommend using poorboys APC on the wheels. The onr doesnt cut brake dust as much as I'd like, however, thats probably why its safe for the paint. If you use a standard soap, I'd say to go w/ p21s.
All Purpose Cleaner APC
P21s Wheel Cleaner 1000ml

Vinyl?
Theres a couple products that I really like here. The optimum protectant plus and 303 aerospace. Both fantastic products. Very matte finish to them and have plenty of protection.
Dash-Vinyl & Trim

I do not need the best products. What I am looking for are products that are easy to use while doing a reasonable job.

You sound like a candidate for the Detailbest FREE Online Detailing Guide!
Detailbest.com detailing your car

Check out our P21s Car Care Kit-It covers a lot of territory for a modest price of $59.97. The quality is good and the products are safe to use.

Sponge or mitt-it's personal preference. For sponges use good ones with very small pores like Zymol. They were DESIGNED for car washing. The P21s Kit also gives you a nice sponge.

Zymol Vinyl is an absolute standout product for the interior. The Germans are the top with interior plastics, and the Zymol Vinyl will maintain that subtle sheen. Instead of the cheap used car lot look.

Use good microwipes like the Zymol ones instead of the no-name communist China ones from the big box store. They'll last so much longer and work much better. If you thought cars were a commodity, you wouldn't be in the Cayman Club.

The Zymol synthetic chamois is good, and we have just gotten some "Absorbers". This item really works and will be loaded shortly into our store.

Glass cleaner shouldn't contain ammonia. Zymol Glas is available and is great. The BMW glass cleaner is also quite good.

The P21s and Zymol wheel cleaners are very good and safe to use.

Forget the cheesecloth, have some wine & cheese with friends the evening after your detail. Show them what a nice job you have accomplished!

Best regards,

Roger the Waxmeister

I'll chime in on the Wax question.

I would suggest Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax 2 or 3 times per year and Griot's Garage Spray On Wax each time that you wash the car. I believe Meguiar's has a spray on, after wash wax too if you want to stay with the same brand for both. The combination should yield a deep shine and smooth finish year around.

ONR does wonders for me since I have no access to a hose.

Definitely get good quality microfiber towels and sheepskin mitt.

Wax: Meguiars NXT

Windows: Invisiglass

Interior: 303 Aerospace - gets your interior darker/brighter than when your car was brand new

Listen to ChrisNJ! Great service from his store.

I just ordered Opti-Seal and a few other things...people are happy with the results, especially with ONR http://autopia.org/forum/detailing-p...th-review.html

I can't wait to use it...gotta keep my baby shiny.

Question: Whats the difference between sealant and wax? Is it okay to apply wax (Meguiars NXT) after applying Opti-Seal? Or is that redundant

I gotta fight with ya on this answer. Any dish soap is alkaline and will remove most wax and sealants. If that's what you want, cool, but otherwise I'd strongly recommend sticking with car washes. In the realm of car washes I'd say "no need to buy anything fancy", but there are tangible differences between products for ease of removing heavy dirt and bugs.
