Have you taken your Cayman to an Automatic Car Wash?
I am curious has anyone ever taken their Cayman to a brushless automatic car wash drive through? What was your experience, good or bad? I know heaven forbid, but their does come a time when your out-of-town, you don't have much time or you have no access to water that you start to think of driving through a automatic car wash. But then sense pops back in and you get that thought out of your mind. I am asking because I am starting to travel out of town more attending Weddings, Graduations, etc.
I take mine to a touchless auto carwash all the time. I generally don't have the time or energy to hand wash my car every week or whenever it's dirty, especially during the winter months. If the wheels are really dirty w/ brake dust, then I'll clean them with the high pressure self-wash first.
It's not a concours finish, but for a daily driver, I don't think it's bad. I stay away from the auto carwashes that use rotating brushes or mops, because I'm afraid they may have embedded dirt or particles that will scratch the finish.

I can think of worse places than a touchless automatic car wash. I'm with you Hot Kman. In a pinch I'll run it through a TOUCHLESS machine. In my world it's better than leaving it covered with bird poop, bug guts and road grime for another week. Whenever possible I hand wash, chamois and spray wax but don't always have time.
I've heard that automatic car washes recyle water...is that true?
When you say touchless, do you mean the type where you park in a cement stall and with high pressure washers you soap and then rinse your car? That wouldn't be too bad, and in a pinch that would work. The fun part would be drying it off on the freeway.

I was referring to the automatic stalls where you stay in your car and the high pressure sprayers go around, or back and forth over your car with the soap, wax, rinse, etc., and then then you drive out thru the big air jets to dry it (about $8 a pop).

I do it all the time. Every time I gas up I run it through the wash. As KS-CS mentioned, it's not perfect but it's fine for a daily drive. Every three months or so, I will take it to the dealer for a wash (not detail, just wash). I clean the interior myself.
I hate to break this news to some of you: The Cayman isn't that precious of a vehicle to obsess about the car wash. On average they are less than $60K (in the LA market this is an economy car), depreciate likes it's nobodies business, and combined with a Boxster, are quite common on the road. For these reasons, you might as well enjoy them on a practical level.
