Prep yourself before washing your car

I was so excited about washing my CS for the first time. I researched the Cayman Care Forum for cleaning tips and products. I purchased high end soap, mitts, towels and a soft squeegee. Anxiously I waited for the sun to set before lathering the car in waves of soapy suds. In my excitement, I forgot to remove my belt, ring and watch, all of which contain metal. This was a huge mistake. I scratched the paint, probably with my metal belt fastener while leaning in to wash the top of the car. Pretty stupid move on my part, and I'm reminded of my carelessness each time I open the car door. I suspect that many of you have figured this out and jettison all metal objects hanging from your body before washing your car. If this thought hasn’t occurred to some of you, I hope this story serves a purpose and saves someone from the anguish I am experiencing.

I’m back to the Cayman Care Forum again, this time searching for tips to remove scratches to the paint.

Great tip. I did the same thing a long time ago by forgetting to take off that bullriding rodeo belt buckle I won when I was 16. The scratch lives longer in my memory than the award.

When I wash any of my cars I only wear a g-string and nothing else. That way I never scratch the car. Try it sometime, it also keeps the neighbors at bay from constantly asking questions about your Cayman.

Excellent tip!! I wash my cars in my sweats. I don't have any metal anywhere on my body.

It depends on how deep the scratches are. You can try a Porter Cable 7424 and this kit CCS Technology Pad Kits<br> for polishing German paints.. I've had good success with it, but if the scratches are deep you may need something stronger.

Fortunately its the kind of mistake you will only make once. Luckily I did it before I owned my CS. The paint on a 5 series BMW is softer than the bracelet on a Rolex Sub. I can tell you from personal expierence.

I cringe whenever someone enters my car wearing jewelry. Most chips, nicks and scratches in my vehicles I can attribute to Jewelry or womans purses. Gemstones in rings scratching interior parts when they are fastening or removing seat belts. Chips in doors from the inside of ring when opening or closing the doors. I avoiding letting persons that have jewelery on from riding in my cars when I can. Jewelery and keeping a car nice don't seem to mix.
