I just bought a new 08 Cayman S. My car is sliver and has less than 600 miles. When I do not use it, my car is always garaged and covered.
In the past, I always washed my cars regularly but never waxed them. As I intend to keep my Cayman for several years, I want to make sure I keep its paint in good shape. My main priorities are speed and ease of use. I do not need the shiniest car. I just want to protect my paint with minimal time and effort. I do not own a polisher and do not want to get one.
For the last week or so I have read a lot of posts on several forums. The more I read the more I realise how little I know. However, I have noticed that Optimum Opti-Seal seems to be very popular. Would that be a good wax for me? Any other easy to use product I should look at?
In addition, do I need to clay my car? If so, which product should I use?
Do I need to polish it? If so, which product should I use?
Lots of interesting discussions on this and as you might notice by reading them it is akin to religion. Everyone has a passionate favorite. Read the couple of hundred threads that already exist and see how confused you get....So your best bet is to try a few brands and pick what you like best. You can also read about claying and polish in many different threads. Do your homework and try some different products.
(Against my better judgement about recommending a specific product I will since you asked. For my silver Cayman S that is going to stay in my garage a long time it is P21S. Easy on and easy off. Needs about four applications a year. And you can get it from our sponsor Chris at Glimmer Glass Welcome to Glimmer-Glass Detailing who is a great person to deal with)
Ditto on the P21S. Probably the easiest wax that you will ever apply and buff off. I believe it is a concoction of beeswax and carnuba. It gives you a great shine, but protection time is limited. A great wax for when you want to show the car. And it does not leave a white residue on the plastic or rubber like other waxes do.
They also have a 100% pure carnuba if you like sweating it up a little.
I read your previous post about an ez cleaning product. I'm in your position, new Cayman, and I don't enjoy car cleaning and detailing. Did you end up deciding on a cleaning product? Is it one of the no rinse products? What other things did you end up buying as cleaning supplies? I've been reading alot of posts, and it just seems as though everyone has their own opinions, some bordering on obsessiveness.
Like Santa Fe and 4thtimeacharm mentioned, the p21s is a fantastic product and really easy to work with. A little different type product compared to the optiseal that you mentioned. One being a carnauba, the other a sealant. One thing that may appeal to you with optiseal is that there is no residue to remove after application. It simply evaporates, making for quick application. With that said, the p21s really is a very easy on/off product to use. I think you would be impressed with either. Opti-Seal p21s 100% carnauba wax
With regard to your concern over having to clay or polish. You do not NEED to do it. Its going to depend on what your car requires. I've seen some brand new cars that went through dealer prep look worse than some 10 year old cars, lol. For what most people are looking for and want, a new car will usually not need either initially. You can test if the surface needs claying by taking a plastic sandwich bag and placing it over your hand, then feeling the surface. If it feels very rough, it could use some claying. Again, chances are, you can probably hold off until fall, at which time you could do a full detail job. (clay/polish/wax). If you'd like a pretty mild product to do some polishing, I would say to grab some poliseal or polish w/ sealant. Heres some links for the clay and polish if you're interested. Elastic Clay Bar
Clay lube: LUBER- Synthetic Super Lube is the slickest Clay & CLAY BLOCK lubricant (available probably wed/thurs) Poorboys 16oz Spray & Wipe
Polishes: Poorboys World Polish with Sealant Optimum Poli-Seal Victoria Wax Lite Cleanse Lotion

The guys at Premier recommended Rejex for the clear bra said it does a great job on paint and wheels, too. They were right, and it's also easy on - easy off.

I love Rejex, works fine, lasts along time ! E-Z on E-Z off !!!
Thanks for the note on Rejex. I had thought about buying it based on what the boys at Premier had said, but it's nice to know people have used it and like it!

I've been able to find the 100% pure carnuba, but not the blend youre talking about. Can you give me a product name for the P21S product everyone is raving about on here? or is it the 100% carnuba?
