Vinyl

Which parts on the cayman s are vinyl? On in the outside and inside.

For example, are the pillars inside vinyl? What about the plastic trim around the wipers?

Thanks.

Funny thing. I went to the dealer to ask that very question and they couldn't answer me.

Good luck!

That's right

With the options allowed on the interior, you can just about apply any color of leather to any part on the interior. So, you have the basic plastic dash area to start, and you can customize every dash piece, seat component, and the center console.

You can even elect to have the visible stitching deviate from the leather color.

On a full leather interior(std) which parts are vinyl? The leather is on the seats, half the dash, the doors. Is the remaining vinyl? Im asking because I want to apply Zymol Vinyl feed to it.

Here is how to tell what is plastic...

You can mostly figure it out using the illustration on page 5 of the Order Guide
The Cayman Club - Downloads - 2008 order guide

The base vehicle interior description on pages 2 and 4 says "Steering wheel rim, gear selector, hand brake grip, armrests in the door panels trimmed in leather." Then look further in the order guide to find the descriptions of each part to see if you ordered an option that says it is leather. Otherwise it is probably plastic.

I worked in the plastics industry many years ago. Only a small amount of the plastic in the Cayman is vinyl. The door panels and sides of the seat covers in the non-full leather cars is vinyl. The non-leather dash cover is more like a rubber product. Virtually none of the hard plastics inside the car are vinyl. They are usually polycarbonate, ABS or polypropylene. I am pretty sure that none of the exterior plastics are vinyl.

I use Lexol Vinylex in the interior on all plastics (hard and soft) for a non-gloss sheen and One Grand ERV or 303 Aerospace Protectant on all the black exterior plastics. I prefer the high-sheen (non glossy) finish that One Grand ERV leaves, but I think the 303 may provide better UV protection. (I am not a chemist, so this is just a guess.)

Zymol Vinyl works well on the other interior plastics, such as the harder surfaces. Nobody does quality plastics like the Germans! And they need feeding too.

Best regards,

Im interested in feeding the dashboard where the leather stops and the vinyl? begins. My car sits in the sun for a good while during the day so i'd like to get some moisture into it. I have nicely moisturized the leather using Zymol Treat. Now my seats are slippy slide(y) again.
