Arrow How to clay, polish and wax Design Edition

On my car as i am sure you are aware there are the matt black stripes right down the middle of the car and on the doors there are inch gaps gaps between the stripes.
How do i go about doing all the cleaning on the paintwork and not damaging the stripes. Can anyone help me out? Will the decals be strong enough to not get damaged by the clay bar, polish and wax?

James

If you want to be pro, you can use masking tape (the blue kind that doesn't stick or leave residue) to mask off edges before waxing, polishing, etc. Lot of work though.

Using P21S will not leave any residue under the decals. Painters tape also will protect the edges as Kor suggests.

It would be alot of work on the DE, I really dont think i will manage to do that,

I guess i can only try and find out, trial and error, im sure Porsche would have sourced decals that would stand up to the different techniques required.

Thanks though

J

I have not had any trouble cleaning and waxing my Mom's DE1. I Just stay off the stripes as much as I can and later clean any residue out of the edges of the stripes with a horse hair "toothbrush".

But too be honest it is a pain in the butt. My Mom and I have agreed that it would be a lot easier to detail the car if there were not any stripes on it. And she likes the way my plain black car looks. So next week we are going to remove the stripes.

I would avoid claying or polishing the stripes. I have a feeling polishing them will make them shiny and make them loose the matt finish.

One other option to consider, although it'll be very expensive.

I've seen some GT3-RS owners that have wrapped their side logo decals under 3M film.
