Are you all nuts? Washing the Cayman every week? !!

I washed the car and waxed it for the 1st time this weekend. Did just the outside, cleaned the wheels and waxed them too. The process took me 5 1/2 hrs! Getting the bug splatter off, washing, drying and waxing. I can't see having the time to do this every week. How do you all manage to do this??

As a side note, I've read that the wash/ wax process is easier to do with certain waxes so I'll be shopping for some new products.

I do (what I call) a full out detail only twice a year. I do not wash my CS every week (I dont drive it daily), but even so, I would venture to say that any car, if washed weekly ( I have seen some say they wash more often that this) would not require as much work as if only washed, say once a month.

If you were to wash weekly and use the detail sprays, your chore would be reduced in that there might be very limited effort to get off bug splatter, etc. I am assuming that the car is practically clean (by most peoples standards) before they even begin the process. Think of it as more of a wet wipe down.

If you only washed your hands once a week, you would be removing a lot more crude than if you washed your hands 4-5 times a day (example only).

I own a very large 2008 F-150 macked out bohemoth....and I have to tell you, I have yet to lay a hand on it for the purpose of washing (purchased in December). I run it through a touchless wash, but at this point, its pretty embarrassing as to how dirty that sucker has gotten. This is mainly because I will almost need a crane to get to some of the places on the middle top, etc. It will be a bear to wash.

The CS, on the other hand, is small, beautiful and easy to wash. When I do spend 5-8 hours on it, its more a labor of love. I do so because I know the end product is going to be spectacular!!

Quick Detailer Spray. That's how I maintain between major details.
Whenever I see that the car is getting a little dusty or collecting dirt, I use the quick detail. I probably do this once every three days and it only takes me about 15 minutes. If I do the wheels as well, then it takes more time. Doing this, I've found that it is much easier to maintain it when it's time to seal/wax the car (which I do probably once a month). I know it sounds excessive, but it's my new baby and I figure why not.

I do need to get a better wheel cleaner and wax because I'm spending way too much time with them. Brake dusts suck.

I 2nd ARCuhTEK's post. With routine maintenance, the weekly/biweekly washes become much easier. Keeping a good coat of wax, or boosting with a quick detailer also makes things much easier. Dont let it get to the point where you hate doing it... spending time washing/waxing should be enjoyable

At first I washed every week, now it is more like every two weeks, but the car is not a DD. I do clean off bug splatter, etc. after each and very drive, however.

My Black 2007 CS is a DD with a clear bra. Dust, dirt, road tat, bugs. You name it. 2 washes a week on the average. One "waterless" (stealth mode- water restrictions- wet towel from hidden bucket in conjunction with speed shine) and one full out washing-interior detail on Sunday(the only day that we can wash cars here). My son and I can do this in 30 minutes for the quick wash and 1-1/2 hours for the full deal. We can do the entire with p21S paintwork cleaner and Carnuba wax in 2 hours no problem. I can't fathom 5-1/2 hours unless you are removing the wheels. In any case buy the best stuff you can find as discussed in ths forum. Makes a heck of a difference.

I try to wash mine every week. It's a DD and it keeps the wheel dust down and easier to clean.
Wheel Cleaner? The only product I have found to actually clean brake dust is Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. I have tried P21S, Wheel Sealent, Meguiar's Gold and tried Optima Opti Seal. I plan on taking some pictures and publishing them in the next few weeks.

Took me 3 hrs to hand wash, clay, and wax my Cayman for the first time; took my daughter and me working together, 2 hours to do the same to our medium-sized SUV.

I figure that I might hand wash my CS every couple of weeks (weather permitting), hand wax it 2-3 times/year, and clay it once per year - or should I clay it every time I wax?

I wash the 'Yellow Peril' once a Year - if it needs it or not......... Decision time coming up in July....................

We get so much rain, leaving it outside, it gets a daily rinse off...................

I wash my car almost Everyday before work.I wake at 6 am takes me about 20 minutes or so but I am a Professional car washer if I do say so myself .Its Black and it gets real dirty fast. I cannott stand a dirty car.absolutey hate it . I enjoy every minute washing my car everyday .I use to work at the Docks In San Pedro Calif for 12 years washing the New cars comming off the Transport Ships from japan .a team of 4 of us washed 800 to 1000 Cars EVERY DAY !!! The worst job is removing Cosmoline though ,you have to wear an Acid Mop Suit and just sort of HUG the car then the next guy Sprays it off .The acid Smells Horrible and stays with you for days so we took turns every 4 days.So Get out there and WASH your CAR DAILY!!!!!
