caring for microfiber towels

Our car care sponsors might want to jump in but here is my drill.

Wash microfiber towels with small amounts of liguid detergent; do not use powder as it is possible for undissolved particles to scratch if they remain in the towel. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. Do not wash with any other fabric. Air dry only since heat is bad for microfiber towels.

Well, my method goes a little something like this

Wash in hot water using microrestore detergent (Microfiber Detergent) Wash microfiber together, avoiding mixing loads w/ cottons or other fabrics that may shed/lint. The mf will pick this up when washed/dried. From there, I dry in the machine, also on hot. Standard residential dryers cant get hot enough to do any damage to microfiber Pull em out and fold nicely before putting them in a container to keep any debris off of them.
Another little tip, is that you can actually boil your towels. Try convincing your wife to borrow a large enough pot for this task though, lol. It'll seriously revitalize those suckers almost better than new

Robaz38: I have a few recommendations on towels. These are my favorites:

Elite or Elite II. Only difference is in the banding. Elite has a microfiber banding, Elite II is silk. Towels are also tagless to prevent any scratching when being used. I really think this could be the best towel for the money.
16x16 Elite Microfiber Dual Pile Towel
16x16 Elite Microfiber Towel

Fluffer: Very similar to the elite. Size is slightly different and towel may be just slightly thinner. Again, at the price, great deal.
Fluffer Microfiber Towel

Ultra: Awesome general use microfiber towel. I use these primarily for interior work, however, they're definitely soft enough for exterior. No banding though.

Then, a couple others that I really like include the Ultra Mega Towel (super fluffy!!) and the mega plush.

Thanks! This is something I have wondered for a while but would never have thought to ask on here. I think at this point I should just throw all my combined-washed and fabric softened mf towls away and get new ones...

Getting sticky stuff out?

Occasionally, I drop MF towel on the ground, and it invariably picks up stuff like bits of leaves, and other foreign hostile particles. These are very hard to get out.

Is there a better way to remove stuff that gets stuck in the MF, other than manually picking out each and every tiny bit? Is there a comb or brush that works? Lint roller does not.

Thanks,

Does anyone know if microfiber detergents are safe to use on polishing and buffing pads? I have a lot of wax build up on the pads and I'm tempted to used the microfiber detergent on it.

Blueblast, theres nothing that I know of. Maybe someone else is. But this is why I have so many engine/exhaust microfibers now, lol. This is also the reason why I dont recommend microfiber wash mitts, b/c once it grabs the dirt, they just dont want to let go.

porschefan, I use microrestore on my foam pads all the time. I pour some MR in a bucket w/ some warm water, then clean them in there, rinsing under clean water. I havent noticed any problems yet.

I have my very own washer and dryer! It makes life a whole lot easier. My towels are clean and my wife doesn't complain about wax build up in her washing machine.

Lightbulb Microwipe Care Tips!

All you have to do is wash separately. NO fabric softener or dryer sheets EVER, please, as they contain sizing. GF in particular has an effective solution worked out!

Home dryers are OK, as they don't get too hot like the commercial ones. The laundromats just want to get the customers in and out fast. They don't care about the lifespan of your microwipes (or clothes)!

BTW, a high quality microfiber like the USA-made Zymol Microwipe is always the right choice!

I just soak my pads for a few hours in a bucket of water with Dawn detergent. Then rinse well and air dry. Just like new.
