Paint chip repair woes

It seems that none of the usual pen vendors have color mix for Macadamia, can any one suggest an alternative (other then a body shop) for paint chip repair?

You should be able to order it through Porsche as a special order. Suncoast has the ususal colors in stock. (Guards, black, etc.) They ordered my midnight blue metallic.

Something else that works decently is Blob Eliminator by Langka.com. You actually want the bit of a blob that you'll leave with the regular old bottle of touch up from Porsche. It is polished smooth to the surrounding surface after it sets. Will you get a 100% perfect invisible match on a metallic? No, but better then I at least have ever done just trying to fill in the chip.

I got it from Bravarian Autosport (It was originally for the X5 but don't tell my CS). There are likely other sources maybe even amongst the sponsors.

I used a custom paint from Dr Color Chip - they mixed up Basalt Black for me when I had to fix a bunch of road rash. Pick a tiny stone chip to fix - see if you like it.

I would order a genuine touch-up paint from the Porsche dealer. Understandably it won't be cheap but, can't be a hundred dollars. You won't use it up in a couple of weeks either. I usually end up using only several drops in an entire life of ownership of one car (4 to 5 years..).

I just read up on that Blob Eliminator. I have some chips that I been meaning to fill in but have put it off because I'm scared I'll make it look worse. Does this stuff do a decent job? Any other testimonials?

I used a similar product on mine - you can see some pics and results on this other thread.

Road Rash on Side Grills

You get the special paint color mixed and sent to you. You paint the chip and actually overpaint it. You use your glove to smooth out the blob. In three minutes you use the paint remover that is included with a microfiber towel. It worked very well for me.

I understand that the darker the paint color the more successful you will be with this kind of repair so Basalt Black was a good candidate. All the excess paint came off and the paint chips were mostly flush. I had a couple of larger paint chips where there is still a visible dent but it's not as deep or rough (or white colored) as it was.

I'm going to do those a second time and hopefully the paint will be completely flush, like it is on the smaller chips.

My vendor was Doctor Color Chip (no affiliation with me at all other than I am a one time customer) - but I'm sure other products are similar.

D.
